Hello,
I have been searching for the right diamond for about a month now. It seems like every nice gia certified I run through the HCA comes back not so good. I had one guy show me an EGL INTL- not thrilled about that. But it is a very nice stone. It is a 1.4ct SI2. Now if I get this sent out to get GIA certfied what could possibly change on the stone just the color or can the clairty change too. Also is there a chance the depth and table measurements could change as well. Becuase right now it got a 1.6 HCA. He told me he is certain it will come back with the same grading, but all salesmen are full of it. As for it being SI2, I didnt see any inclusions on the it, so it looked eye clean, just under the loop there was a couple clouds. But SI2 do make me nervous. I would hate to buy it and realize there was something on there that I didnt see or didnt notice. But the price is right because with a platinum setting that has about .5 cts on it, the total was around 5,900.

Welcome!

I would be careful here with grade setting clouds with SI2, as sometimes they can cause a loss of brilliance in the diamond if they are the grade maker, according to one of the experts here. If you like the diamond, then make the sale final ( and get this in writing) on it checking out to your satisfaction in all aspects with an independant appraisal, then they can check the diamond out thoroughly for you. Here is a tool you can use to find an independant appraiser in your area.

If you had the diamond regraded by GIA there is a possibility that the colour and clarity could change, also they cut grade using angles not percents so your HCA might change too depending. A Sarin report would be the best way to get the most accurate measurements of the diamond, an appraiser might have access to a Sarin and could do this for you.
