Need some help finding a princess cut

Hi everyone,

I've been doing some research and am trying to find a good princess cut diamond for the best value (I assume that's what everyone wants  )

From what I've seen here, Blue Nile is not everyone's favorite place as they don't have a lot of resources to compare the diamonds they have listed.

One thing I do like from Blue Nile though is this setting, and I can't find really anything simple and comparative to it:

http://www.bluenile.com/build-your-own-ring/channel-diamond-engagement-ring-white-gold_20304?action=14kWhiteGoldSelect&referrer=customizer&track=alternate-metalsCustomizer

Simple channel design, princess cut diamonds, nothing over the top or intricate designs. I don't want round diamonds on a similar setting but if I find anything like that, they tend to be round.

Another problem I'm running into is I didn't give myself enough time to get this. I need the ring in my possession by Friday November 25th. Blue Nile can easily make that happen and especially with the same setting.

What I'm looking for in a princess cut diamond:

Budget: under $10k with the setting, I'd honestly prefer to keep it under $8k if possible.
Size: As large as the budget allows, was looking into 1.5ct +/- .3ct, but I'm more concerned with how it "faces" than actual carat weight, as with the setting I've picked I want it to look large compared to the setting.
Fiery and brilliant, probably just as important as the size
Color/clarity I'm more concerned with the above, willing to have a SI1 I color if it meets the above qualities, not sure how realistic that is.

Very hard to go off anything on Blue Nile that isn't a "signature ideal" because they don't have photos. I've looked on Whiteflash and Goodoldgold but I can't find a setting that's comparable to the one on Blue Nile. I've looked at a couple diamonds on Blue Nile but having a hard time comparing.

Anyone have any suggestions or can offer assistance, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Thanks!

I actually didn't see that one, but it can only be set with a maximum of a 1.25ct Princess Cut so I think it's too small.

I think that's a good ct. total weight to shoot for if you're trying to stay around $8k and want an excellent cut. Is this for yourself or your girlfriend? If the latter, I would suggest staying at H, SI and above to be safe, esp. since you're putting it into a setting with smaller diamonds.

It's for my girlfriend. Was mainly concerned that a 1.25ct might look too small which is why I said that, but from what I'm reading you need basically a difference of .3mm to even be able to tell from the eye.

I'll look for some JA princess cut stones and post in a minute.

I looked at a very similar one from JA but the November 21st really had me worried if for some reason got delayed. The one you linked is for Round stones only, but they do have a similar one for Princess cuts:

This one from Blue Nile looks like it has potential:

That was one of the ones I had previously marked on my list along with this one: http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-search?stockno=LD01158753

What's odd about that though is the GCAL report is from 2009.

I don't see the light return analysis on it. It's also very shallow with a larger table. It doesn't look like a dud from the video, but if you like the James Allen settings, you have access to diamonds with more info.

Yep, I saw that it only said Round (and not princess) but if you look at the pull down menu that is on the image you can see a
princess version.

I also think the time line is pretty tight for JA. Let me check out WF. They have in-house stones.

Edit...the only setting I saw on JA that might work seemed pretty wide.

If they have a comparable setting, this is a nice princess:

Only channel set I could find at WF...it seems to wide too me.

All these suggestions that you got on this thread so far, you should already be able to make a choice. I think that the first suggestion from James Allen looks great and it may be something like what I'm looking for.

Thanks for all the suggestions and posting all those links! The setting from WF is too wide for my liking.

I'll contact JA and see if there's anyway to rush one but last time I asked they didn't seem confident, actually had told me it may be longer.

That's too bad if you can't get it done on time. But isn't there some way you could ask to have the whole process fast-tracked? Will it cost more or what? I've never been in that situation, but it's nice to know these things just in case..

I contacted JA and there's no possibility to rush the ring, and they again stated that they couldn't even guarantee the November 21-23rd dates, so in this case I'm going to have to go with Blue Nile as I'd have over a week to spare for emergencies.

Does anyone have any opinion on this diamond? Is it a dud?

Was looking at "very good" cut diamonds on Blue Nile and using the GIA reports to see if I could find photos. That one has a ASET image as well.

I realized you needed to make an account for that site to view the photos, so I've attached them here. You can still see the 360 video when you click the link I posted though.
