Been reading for sometime here and I am finally getting ready to purchase the diamond for the Ring..Have run into a few things..I want to get the best diamond for the budget, however I am having a hard time finding AGS 0 ideal cuts online in that size range. I want an ideal/ex cut and am not too sure about going GIA since the cut is hard to tell...Also I am a little concerned about going with G color and SI...should I be concerned? Any thoughts or anything you have seen?? thanks in advance

Princess Cut
Ideal / Ex cut
Size 1.5-1.9
color DEF ?G
Clar down to VS2 ?SI
Price 12-14K

That one looks great. I think WF has a typo on their page, instead of 5.64 x 6.60 it should be 6.64 x 6.60. I was originally going to warn you about it being noticeably off-square (despite the pictures looking square) but then I checked the AGS report!

this one is $14,032 wire price

have you seen different colors in person? that's a good way to tell tolerances. G color should not look yellow but if you are looking for a really icy white diamond it might not be for you. However, lots of people find that G is plenty white for them and wouldn't pay for higher color, it just depends on your personal preferences.

Thank you for those replys..I looked over those two choices and they look very nice...however I would rather stick in the DEF range.

I have found this one at Union diamond ...thoughts? They are calling it an ideal cut..I will call them and ask about ASET images

From the basic info given I would just like to point out that although it is being described as an 'Ideal Cut', it probably isn't cut to the exacting standards of a superideal Princess such as the AGS0 graded stones. It might however be an attractive diamond which sparkles and shines reasonably well, it just depends on what you are looking for and what you want for cut quality. As far as I can tell, there is a chance that the diamond could be hiding weight where it can't be seen visually where you want it, the thick part of the girdle could be responsible here as well as some of the other proportions of the stone. See if you can get an ASET image from UD as you propose, that will give a better picture.

Looks nice, but slightly above your budget which is why I did not suggest it.

Thoughts on this? Under my budget..but looks nice

I like the last 2 stones best. Of the WF ones, I prefer the one SLG posted, and I like them both, but not as much as these latest 2. Can't say much about the one at Union Diamond without a picture and ASET.

Don't worry about G color. To most people, it's indistinguishable from a D, especially when the diamond is mounted. The line between F and G is arbitrary. I have an I color princess, and it faces up as white as my sister-in-law's F.

Both GOG diamonds look very promising, the first is a branded Solasfera Princess, so what I would do is contact Jon to check the SI clarity is eyeclean to your standards and ask him which would be the most suitable for your purposes. Do you have a preference between them for colour and clarity etc?

Thank you for the replys..it feels good to take an active role in this rather than just goinging into a store and taking the one the person recommends. The two from GOG seem like my favorite also...not sure if its worth paying about 7K more for a Solasfera Princess that is about 0.08c larger?

Might be able to increase my budget a bit for this one (16K) ...any thoughts?

I like this last one - and in this size, you have more room to play wrt whether you would prefer bolder, bigger flashes from a 2chevron type or the more twinkly (but still a balance of both "bold flash" and "twinkle", because of sheer stone size) 3+ch make

This latest diamond looks very promising. Concerning the Solasfera Princess, they have more of a 'busy' look as far as I am aware with faster and sharper sparkles, rather like paparazzi flash bulbs going off if that makes sense. Your selections are all very finely cut stones so it is really down to taste and preference which to pick, ask the respective vendors to discuss them with you as you should find that helpful.

Here is a video which should be useful, it compares the Solasfera Princess to an AGS0 cut grade Princess,

Both are really stunning, but I prefer the patterning of the 1.44 ct.

It's beautiful!
Can't wait to see handshots :))

Thanks and She said Yes

An issue that I first noticed on the ring and she felt the same way about it was that the ring band is too narrow..it was stated on the site that it would be 2mm..however after having it checked out...it is only 1.3-1.4mm max ..so I am in the process of talking to BGD about the issue and see how to fix it...

Hi!

I’m in a similar conundrum.

So in the end which one did you chose? I didn’t see it clearly.

Did you go with the Solasfera princess cut? or the Brian Gavin Diamond signature princess cut?

I’m kind of stuck between the Solasfera, the Brian Gavin Signature and the White Flash A Cut Above.

It seems the ‘best’ is the Solasfera in terms of biggest, brightest and most balanced sparkle across the stone. Am I correct?

Thank you!
