Hello there,

First time posting here, thanks for all the useful content on this site!
So stressed out right now finding the "right" diamond:eek2:. I'm looking for an excellent cut diamond, cut is the most important to me. 2.7 - 2.8ct. I can sacrifice color and clarify a bit, my budget is around $25k.

It would be greatly appreciated if I can have your thought on these 2 diamonds:

Thanks for your time!:geek2:

As noted I'd pass on all those stones. The proportions are not very good.

One thing I noticed is all them had large tables (57-59). Was this intentional? Depths were all over the place but some people like what we call a 60/60 stone meaning the table and depth both equal approx 60%.

A 60/60 stone has ideal proportions that are different than those listed by @snowdrop as you have shallower crowns and higher pavilions in those stones. A 33 crown and 41 pavilion works well in a 60/60 but is no good in a traditional cut stone.

Also they tend to throw more white light as opposed to rainbow light (fire). This isn't bad but it is a preference you need to determine as the looks can be quite different. Most people prefer and recommend a traditional cut stone as opposed to a 60/60 but as long as you are aware the difference we can recommend either.

no to all of those. :knockout: There's not much in your price range for the size you want. 2.5ct would be easier.

what about this one? it has strong fluoro so definitely would want it to be examined to make sure the fluoro isn't causing any haziness. slightly higher crown than recommended (36) but it pairs well with the 40.6 pavillion angle

@Snowdrop13 Thanks for your recommendation!
@sledge no it wasn’t intentional. To be honest I don’t have a preference regarding to a 60/60 vs traditional cut. I just would like the stone to have as much light return as possible within my budget.

I also prefer a GIA certified stone, just a personal preference:geek2:
Is this one too deep?

Thanks all!:D

Sorry I am slammed at work or would search and post stones myself.

This last stone has a better table but that crown is too high at 36.5. And depth is nearly 63 which is too deep. On a positive note, pairing a low pavilion of 40.6 with a higher crown is the right thought process.

Just we normally like to see a max 35.5 crown with 40.6 pavilion. This is why @farrahlyn noted the 36 crown on the stone ahe found was a little out of spec.

Her stone may work but you'd want an ASET or idealscope image to confirm.

@farrahlyn thanks for sending this stone! I like it!
@sledge thanks for the info, the vendor is closed today but I'll see if I can get a ASET photo from them.

Thanks for pointing out the directions! Much appreciated! =)2

ditto lovedogs, no to all of those. a J in a stone of this size is definitely going to show some tint from the sides, you have to be sure this is ok with the intended, that's going to bug some people, especially if the setting you choose is really open on the sides.

if you're willing to go to a J, maybe check out this one?

again, it's VERY strong fluoro so this needs to be vetted to make sure it's not causing any issues. slightly high crown (35.5) but paired with a complimentary pavillion (40.6)

I would listen to others here... Do yourself a favour and take out all the guess work and get an AGS000 at around 2.5 CT and stay in budget while guaranteeing you get a quality diamond..

Something like this...

You may save some money and/or go up in clarity/colour if you do some leg work with jamesallen as well.

The only way you will be able to appreciate the difference that cutting makes is to see some diamonds side by side. Your eyes will tell you which they like better, and for most people, that will be the better cut diamonds.

If you tell us where you live, there may be someone here that knows a retailer in your neck of the woods that can show you some diamonds of good to great quality. Another factor to consider when shopping for a top cut diamond, is what are they buyback and trade up guarantees. While you may never want to use either of them, should the occasion arise where you do want to trade up or sell back your diamond, that is the wrong time to find out you do not have good options.

Just my thoughts.

Wink
