I need some suggestions on what settings look best with a 1.02ct cushion cut. When my fiance bought my engagement ring, he was on a tight budget so I told him to spend every last dime on my diamond and that we can always upgrade the band later on. I absolutely love my diamond. The specs are: color-E; cut-Excellent; clarity-vs2; polish-excellent...not sure what else is important. My ring size is 7 and I am now thinking I should have gone for size rather than quality because my finger is swallowing my pretty ring. Does anyone have any suggestions to make my diamond look bigger? I was considering a 3-row pave, but I''m not sure if that''ll give the illusion of size. Any suggestions? Thanks :)!

Also if anyone knows any jewlers in the downtown Los Angeles area that makes great settings for cushion shaped diamond, I''d appreciate a name :) I''m really hoping to pay under $1400.

Hi future,

Very pretty! I would suggest a halo, it's the best way I know of to get more size on the stone. Here's a thread of halo's, many cushions in here. Also, if you try searching "cushion halo" on here, you should get lots of seperate threads with pics. However, it might be a bit tricky on that budget.... I know Maytal Hanah (not sure of location) and Bridget Durnell (Palos Verdes) are both in CA, not sure if they are close to you as I don't live there.

HTH!

Your cushion is really pretty. I think you made the right choice to go quality v size.

Are you just wanting more sparkle on your finger or what look are you going for?

I agree with Ellen that a lot of people do a halo and like how much larger the center stone appears, though this stone is plenty big at 1.71ct. I tend to like the understated halos like this more so than the other style:

#1 Winnie's ring

I'm also wondering though if one would be obtainable with your stated budget. I was thinking maybe if you set it in a thicker band that it'd look more substantial, this has a 1.55ct. I don't think the diamond disappears on your hand, I feel the band does. How about something like this:

#2 Maya Moonstone's ring

The only other thing I can think of and again it'll depend on the budget, is something with side stones like this:

#3 Kal-bi's ring

I'm not a huge fan of halos for myself, but I do love them on everyone else. LOL If I had to pick from the three options I've posted, I'd be hard pressed to pick between #2 and #3.

Good luck and welcome!

I think a halo would look gorgeous with your ring :)

Check out Peter Storm''s settings - they are unique and always offer big beautiful looks!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions :) I really love that understated halo look. Now the quest is on to find one within my budget :) Thanks again.

Hi Future Mrs. T. I think you can probably find a ''stock'' setting for your budget if you are okay with 14K white gold. If you like, we can help you try to find one.

Have you tried on any wedding bands along with it? I wear a size 8 ring (and a size 11 shoe!) and my engagement ring band looks too small on its own. However, with the wedding band I think it looks just fine. I only wear them as a set, so it's not a problem. Before you re-set the engagement ring, it might be worth trying on a nice diamond band or something along with the existing ring and seeing what you think. I considered a halo because they absolutely do make a center stone look bigger, but I personally was a little concerned it might look a little dated in a few years.

Redrose, thanks for that link. It''s definitely beautiful and even below my budget. I''m going to compare it to a few other ones and I''ll let you guys know which one I decide on.

Gypsy, I don't mind 'stock' at all...I'm not an expert so I really don't think I'll know the difference :P I also love white gold.

I've been browsing the net for hours with not too much luck with the exception of one website with a large variety of halo settings (exceldiamonds.com), so I'm glad I finally decided to check all your replies...thanks!

I have tried on a few wedding bands and the ones I want are pretty sparkly and they make my engagement band look so plain. I've tried on a few wrap around bands I can't say that I'm very fond of those. I also walked into Tiffany (hehe, not intending to buy but I wanted to see if there's really a difference in quality for the name...I didn't notice any...) and I tried on a few different micro-pave band and a channel setting. I liked the danty micro-pave, but again, my engagement ring looked dull next to it. I guess I'm finally realizing that I love glitz and sparkle.

Tuckins1, thanks for all these options. My fiance purchased my e-ring from JamesAllen and I''m really happy with the great deal we got. I''ve looked through his site and don''t see any bands that I''m interested in. I do however like a few of the bands from Knox that I really like.

Here are the ones that I''m going to marinate over (a couple are from exceldiamonds and one from pearlman''s):

1) http://www.exceldiamonds.com/-Engagement-Rings-5/Diamond-Accent-Engagement-Rings-12/Inspired-by-Ritani-Halo-Diamond-Engagement-Ring-JENS311-1374.html (This one is the best deal I''ve found, but I''m not sure how a cushion will fit in this round setting...)

3) http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=201&rn=1562&action=show_detail (This one will be perfect with the micro-pave wedding band I love so much)

4) http://www.knoxjewelers.biz/index.htm?crn=201&rn=786&action=show_detail (I''m not super hot on how the side of the crown (?) is so bare, but the price is sooo right)

5) http://www.pearlmansjewelers.com/jewelry-designers/beverley-k-jewelry/rings/116PP1/14/ (I''m not hot on the scrolls, but the aerial view is gorgeous)

6) http://www.exceldiamonds.com/-Engagement-Rings-5/Diamond-Accent-Engagement-Rings-12/Vatche-Grace-Diamond-Ring--180-1540.html (love it love it)

I''ll let you guys know what I decide on. Good night

I have a friend who has her 1 carat cushion set with pear sides. I don''t remember their weight, but it does provide good finger coverage for her.

Please do, it''s going to look gorgeous when you''re done. And big.

I would put a halo around it, with a micropave band, like a harry winston style. Beautiful stone, by the way!

I really like this ring

Pearlmans allows you to modify the Beverly K settings! You can ask if it can be made w/o the scrolls!
