Hello,

I''ve been lurking for a couple of months and finally decided to join. I WISH I had found this site a long time ago but most especially the last couple of months so that I could''ve pointed dh to this site to do some research when he finally decided to upgrade my e-ring to more than a carat after 10 years of marriage
28.gif
(my e-ring was an uncertified 5/8 round solitaire).

Anyway, he got me this diamond from Kay Jeweler''s for Christmas. He was able to trade-up my old e-ring because he bought that from Kay''s, too. A close family friend looked for the diamond for him and she chose this one because she said it is an excellent cut. I think this diamond is beautiful but just knowing that it came from Kay''s I sort of had misgivings about the true value of this stone (IGI certificate--which Kay Jewelers carry as far as I know). Imagine my surprise when I finally received my certificates and it was a GIA certificate!! I never knew Kay Jewelers carries GIA stones (although our friend did say that she had to order from the Diamond Room so I guess that''s a different thing).

I think I''ve attached a copy of the GIA cert that I scanned (hope I did it right). I''ve input the numbers on the HCA and it scored a 1.1--is this a nice diamond ring? I know there are a lot of experts here and your opinions would really be appreciated by this newbie. Thanks so much!! And I''m in awe of (and blinded by

) everybody''s rings

Welcome Amy!

Your diamond looks lovely and also you say you think it is beautiful, I am sure it is! Your Hubby and friend did good, so enjoy your diamond and if you would like, we would love to see some pictures of it!

Congrats on your new diamond!

I think this looks like a good diamond, and a happy ending!

It sounds ike a beautiful diamond. I hope you post pictures of it.

Thank you Lorelei, Ellen, and Marcyc

Those aren''t bad! And it looks beautiful, really!

It does look beautiful. Your DH and friend did very well. This is the way to do it if you choose to shop at a chain store. You must know what you are looking for and to ask for. Nothing wrong with that.

Thanks, Ellen

Gwendolyn, trust me I've been taking lots of pics AND just plain staring at the ring on my hand AND dh doing this
20.gif
(but really I think he's quite pleased with himself
31.gif
). Still, I'm wanting to be able to take pictures of my diamond ala-LynnB, Mara, and Ellen--so crystal clear and beautiful
30.gif
30.gif
. My camera is only the Casio EXILIM EX-S600--maybe I need a new camera?

BTW, I'm already thinking of changing my ering setting and getting a matching WB (yes, very surprising
3.gif
)--can someone tell me if how low or high and the type of basket for the setting (also, 4-prong vs 6-prong) will affect the diamond's light return?

Amy

LOL!!! Ok Amy, I am no expert with pics, but here is the info I have learned from the masters such as Ellen and Lyn etc!

But you have done great anyway, but here is the scoop!

Firstly, always use macro mode on the camera ( flower icon) as this helps close up focus. Make sure the flash is off and the camera is steady, rig up a tripod if that helps. Often outdoor lighting is good, with the sun behind you. It seems that when you are first taking diamond pics, that only a few out of each batch come out really well, this is normal.

Ellen is around, so maybe she can pop in and give you some more pointers _

CALLING ELLEN!!!

What a beautiful diamond! Congratulations! Great pictures also -- really love #1 and #3.

Lorelei gave great advice. And really, it would be easier for you to type in "good diamond pictures" and the like in the search box up there to the right, than for me to type all the tricks/tips out. You will get tons of threads, and tips.

But seriously woman, all I think you really need is a little practice, your pictures are NOT bad!
