Need opinions on diamond reset

I’m having my engagement ring reset due to damage to the prongs. So, I love my original so much that I’m basically picking the same thing, even having the original side stones transferred to the new ring. Now, my jeweller is giving me the choice of setting my Center stone with the longest dimension set vertically (my original) or I can change it to be horizontal, basically like an east-west setting. What are your opinions, keep it exactly like original or flip it? I attached pics of my original ring, and the loose diamond (that I’m holding on to while jeweller casts my new ring).

Thanks for the opinion, that is one of the reasons why I wanted to keep it that way. But since I’m re-setting it exactly identical, I’m second guessing whether I should do that or change it up. Do you think the diamond looks smaller with the longest part set horizontally?

Keep it vertical. Ask them to do some nice claw prongs rather than the ball prongs this time.

Ooh, good idea! I didn’t know that’s what it was called but I did notice some prongs were more delicate than others. I just went on a google spree for a bit there to learn more lol! Thanks for the suggestion

i think it looks largest with the longest length vertical

Longwise is typically the most flattering as it lengthens the finger visually.

I agree with everyone else. North-south is a classic look. I am not really a fan of east-west settings as they don't elongate the finger the way that north-south settings do. I also think that they are a bit of a fad.
