Just purchased this rock from Blue Nile and would like opinions about it from those of you who know what you are doing. It seemed to be way underpriced for the combo and scores a 1.2 on the HCA, far better than more expensive rocks I was looking at.
GIA report is viewable on the page above but here are the specs:

Carat: 2.2
Color: H
Clarity: VS1
Measurest: 8.41-8.45 x 5.11
Cut Grade: Excellent
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Excellent
Fluoresce: None
Culet: None
Comments: Clouds not shown
Table %: 57%
Pavilion %: 60.6%
Crown Angl: 34.5^
Pavil Angl: 40.8^
Crown %: 14.5%
Pavil %: 43%
Girdle: Medium (faceted)

Any and all comments welcome...PLEASE.

Hi RX,

Everything looks great so far. As for the price, it''s a bit less than some others in that range. I''d say it''s definitely worth bringing home to have an independant appraiser look at it. That''s one who doesn''t sell jewelry.

If it gets the ok, you''ve found your stone! It really does look nice on paper.

I agree that is looks like a great stone! The price seems good, too! Nice choice!!!

Thritto.

Well I got the rock in the mail yesterday and took some pics through my idealscope. The table may be a bit dip but the color is more pink than it looks in the photo.

The symmetry is better than I could photograph too. I found it a bit difficult to photograph well and these are the best I could do. The diamond is a bit dirty in a few of the photos.

I can't find any inclusions or clouds at 10x after looking at this thing for a long time at 10x and giving myself a migraine in the process. It is definitely clean as far as I can tell.

Few question:
1. As best as you can tell, does this look like a hearts and arrows diamond?
2. Is there too much light leakeage?
3. I paid $21,075 and am wondeering if I got I deal? I feel as if I did but want to know what you all think.
4. Is it worth taking to an independant appraiser and having that done before mounting it.
5. Cert is GIA and is it a good idea to have AGS do one also (if this rock is up to par)?

It looks like a beautiful diamond, as to whether it meets the standards to be considered a true h&a, we need clear hearts images and the input of those like Strm who have studied many of these images. But you did a fabulous job with the pics, well done! I don't see any leakage, not a problem.

Pricing you can compare similar using the search tool above. No need to get AGS do a grading report also. If you want reassurance, then get an independant appraisal done, select an appraiser who has the experience and tools in evaluating cut quality, here is a list for you.

Happy Holidays!

I''ll defer to those with more experience to evaluate them, but I wanted to say great job with those images!!!

Probably not under the (strict) definition used around here, but it certainly looks like a nicely cut stone. It wasn''t sold as a H&A, correct? I wouldn''t worry too much, it should be stunning!

And no, at VS1 it will be very hard to find the inclusions.

I think you did great! And good job on the pictures too.

I will pass on getting another certificate but will have an independent appraisal done locally.

I would also like to have it inscribed, are there any recommendations some of you might provide?

Thank You All for your responses thus far.

I'd also like to thank this forum and Pricescope in general. If it were not for this site and the information provided on it, in particular the Holloway Cut Adviser, I would have ended up with a 2.42c J SI2 triple VG stone for the same price. I had actually bought that stone back in April (my first diamond purchase) with an EGL-USA cert that said it was an I color stone (all else equal).

After discovering this site (unfortunately after my purchase), I learned of the loose color ratings issued by EGL-USA, discovered the HCA score was 5.9 and that I could of had the same rock for WAY, WAY LESS. Needless to say, my heart literally sank and I felt sick to my stomach, literally. I immediately sent the stone to GIA for a second opinion, as required for returns to issue a refund by DI whose "policy" states they will accept returns within 30 days for store credit and only issue a refund if the stone is 2 or more colors or clarity grades off what it was sold as. I also ordered the Ideal-scope kit in the meantime. Upon receiving the stone back from GIA and confirming it was overrated, had more light loss than retention while viewing it with my Idealscope (it was appalling), I canceled my CC charge, regardless of the store policy. DI fought me tooth and nail, winning round one but then I contested the outcome of that. DI did not respond during round two and the case was settled in my favor and then closed.

Moral of my story is that as a naive consumer making their first major diamond purchase, it is an unforgiving world out there with many people looking to take advantage of victims in my situation. Thanks to this site, I feel I have become a knowledgeable buyer who can feel good about the purchase I made by knowing what I really paid for (at least thus far

It looks like a great stone at a great price.

Wow, RX, good for you for standing your ground! I''m sorry you had to go through that at all, but at least the outcome was a happy one. And you''re right, it''s a shame there are people out there waiting to take advantage of unsuspecting customers.

If you don''t mind my asking, who/what does DI stand for?

And again, congrats on your stone, it''s a beauty!
