Need opinion on OEC

I’m still looking for a decent 0.5 - 0.75ct OEC with a nice facet pattern. This one is 0.57ct. It has a Kozibe effect which I could care less about. I just want it to have a nice sparkle and fire and no ‘dead’ or dark areas.

I do see a slight chip on the girdle but the stone otherwise looks clear in the photos. There’s no grading report.

Any expert opinions on this one? Thanks!

I'd buy it if the price is right. It looks like a very nice late OEC with very nice symmetry.

And by the way, people care about kozibe because it is a sign of a well cut diamond. It also created a beautiful pattern. So don't poo poo it!

You won't see it in a diamond this size with the naked eye, though.

It's a pretty stone. The prongs will need work so factor that into your cost.

Good point.

What’s a good price for a .57? I plan to reset it so I’m really paying for just the diamond.

If you are planning on resetting have you checked Ivy and Rose? That way you would know exactly what you're getting. Btw I went through this search recently for an OEC 1/2 carat size and it took me a bit to find a good one.

I have checked them out and will do it again for comps. Thanks. Would you have considered this one? The price is right around $1k. Not sure if I can get it down from that.

I'm cheap so when I was looking I was aiming for less than $800, ideally $800 with an offer option, it was s tough hunt! Let me look and see what I saved from my search.

To answer your question I would definitely try to negotiate, aim for 20% and point out the chip and that the prongs need work. Worst they can say is no!

Sorry, my brain is scattered this week.

You could also try looking for a stud earring in an OEC, that way you aren't paying for a setting.

If you are going to pay around 1K, I found these, no chips, good color and nice clarity:

Here is one for $700:

The first three pictures are the seller's and the last two are mine.

Also just wanted to mention that when buying to reset you need to keep in mind diameter because just because a diamond weighs 1/2 carat doesn't mean it is 5mm, some diamonds are bigger than their weight and some are smaller.

Anyone else have an opinion on this one as far as what it might look like based on the facets in the photos? Thanks!

Is there also a chip around 7:30/8:00? Or is that the prongs?

I think the stone has potential, but the features you are asking about (sparkle, fire) are really difficult to determine from these still photos.
Is there a return policy? If not, any possibility of a video?

1k seems high, but I haven't bought on ebay for about 7 years lol

The setting looks substantial so you will be paying for it, not just the centre. The centre has a nice pattern and symmetry but as mentioned by others, you need to see it in real life and in motion. Based on the info there’s no certain way to tell you how it will perform - if you are willing to gamble (and potentially lose) it looks promising, but are you prepared to wear the cost of it is not? I wouldn’t worry about the chip personally.

For the centre alone it may be on the higher end of the price spectrum, but as mentioned the setting looks to be adding to the cost. Based on macro pics we can’t definitively tell you if this stone is a winner sorry.

Re price - agree with @Lovesparklesparle and others that the setting is contributing to the price; however, vintage/antique settings have value and are in demand so you could sell the setting to recoupe some of your cost.

Another option, .62 KVS2 with GIA report, seller accepts returns for any reason. He'll send you more pics too.

I wasn't sure due to the picture rotation lol

Hi yes I think that might be a chip. I asked about it and didn’t get a definitive answer.

I think I have ruled it out based on price and not a great return policy. I would like a slightly bigger one anyway I think. I’m leaning towards .75ct now. Thanks for all the advice! I will post others as I find them to try to get at least a preliminary opinion before ordering but I do think it’s important to have the option of returning.
