Hello everyone! Long time lurker, first time poster here. I am planning on getting engaged next Saturday and need to get a ring ASAP. I have found one that I really like at WhiteFlash. Its a 1.71 VS1 G WhiteFlash ASA. I was wondering if this is worth it and what could be comparable and maybe cheaper. Below are some requirements:

  • My girlfriend really likes flashiness, so that is a priority.
  • I don't think i want to go below G in color, I think that she and I will be able to tell if we go below that.
  • I might be able to go down to VS2, but I am not too confident of going down that low.
  • The size needs to be 1.6ish+
  • Budget is ~20k

What I am currently set on:

Please let me know your thoughts and advice! Thank you!

it's a nice stone that meets all your requirements.

What is your definition of 'clean' (clarity)? Can find some VS2s and ask the vendors if the stone meets your requirements, would save you a little or could go up in size or colour..

WF stone looks good.

Almost all VS2 are eye clean, most SI1 are. VS1 is overkill unless you are Superman, most of the time even with a loupe it will be difficult to find a VS1 inclusion unless you know where and what to look for.

Thanks for the reply!!

My definition of clean would be that it is impossible to see anything with the naked eye and difficult for a normal person to see anything under magnification.

From the side?

Some VS2s you may see the inclusions through the pavilion - wanting a stone that is clean from the sides is really the only reason to need a VS1 or above in this size range.

Consider carefully before saying "yes" - will your setting choice enclose (thus hide) the side? Will the stone be set low to the finger, making it very difficult to see through the sides when worn? If you are comfortable paying a premium for higher clarity than you "need" that is also fine if it is something that makes you happier, so long as you make all decisions with eyes open :))

Are there any more thoughts on this diamond? Am I going overboard?

It meets all of your requirements.

Difficult to see under 10x magnification=VS1.
Somewhat easy to see under 10x=VS2.

My only opinion is that you should have a nicer setting. Its a a nice setting, but you could do better.

I was going to ask about this as well. By flashiness do you mean the diamond itself being flashy (ideal cut, large) or that she likes flashy jewelry, i.e. pave/more elaborate settings? Simple settings are great as well, it just boils down to what the wearer prefers. This could always be something you change down the road though if need be.

LOVE the stone, i think this is a great choice !

as for setting, i would go for something more elegant daintier prongs to show off the large sized stone :

like this one:

or this one:

if she likes flashiness i would choose this one (more blingy but equally classy) :

All of the rings frankiextah posted are lovely. I think the Legato is a nice choice for added bling without too much of an increase in price.

Thanks everyone!! I actually meant flashiness from the diamond. She wants a simple, elegant, and sophisticated setting. Should I drop down to Expert selection instead of ACA?

If you want to save money you can drop down to Expert Selection. These stones are usually near misses (almost ACAs) and
could be an excellent buy.

This one meets your needs...it is larger though so not saving you as much (nothing wrong with larger IMO  ).
