Im looking at purchasing an engagement ring. My budget is $8000 and was looking at James Allen since all the good reviews. The setting i like is item #11027w but they were going to customize the setting and take out the side stones since i thought they wouldnt be necessary. The custom setting without side stones would be $3200 in 18k gold. I thought that was descent price. Also im looking for a stone. I had a couple in mind #1503926 or #1498399.Opinions? She wants princess cut and something that stands out. Any recommendations is appreciated!

Is this the setting you were thinking of?

If so I don't think it is worth almost half your budget, which is very nice by the way, the price for that setting just seems crazy expensive. I think you could get a far prettier solitaire setting for far less money. It will also allow you to get a nicer larger center stone.

What is your girlfriends style? What kind of jewelry does she like: modern, antique looking, more understated, over the top blingy? Are there pieces of jewelry that she wears often? What do these pieces look like?

Since you picked a solitaire to begin with I am going too suggest a solitaire with a thinner band and the diamond kite set. It is still classic but with a modern funky twist. I love D&T's ring, its a beautiful example of a kite set princess (also a diamond size that is totally do-able in your price range) https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/kite-set-a-princess-sure-why-not.153166/

I can't really suggest any diamonds because I really don't know anything about princess cut stones but I'm sure somebody will chime in on stones. In the meantime try checking out whiteflash.com they seem to have a bigger selection of stones in your price range.
