Hi, PS friends!
Need some extra eyes and thoughts on this LGD.
Are the 45% stars and 80% lowers a boon to the 40.8/35.5/57 combo, or will this diamond have some sufferings in certain aspects of performance (sparkle, scintillation, etc)?

So that those in the trade can (hopefully) participate: please DO NOT post the grading report, report number, or any links to sellers that may have this diamond listed in inventory.

Here's the video:

Just to be sure GIA numbers or not? Taking less messed with numbers and GIA numbers are 2 different things.

Lets tackle less messed with numbers first.
35.5/57 is close to the edge of needing shorter stars.
The benefits are shallower upper girdle facets to provide contrast with the steeper crown facets and to keep them from going over deep. It also provides contrast under movement by giving the diamond a wider area to draw light this improves scintillation.
As long as the edges are not going white in ASET/IS its not something that is absolutely required in this combo depending on what is in the averages.
As an aside longer stars can help scintillation in shallower crowns by steepening the uppers.
Changing the star% does have other appearance differences but they are much less important compared to the performance differences which are mainly in the upper girdle angles.

80% lowers work well with this combo.
Its not an arrow popping combo and the 80% lowers balance it out very well.

edit: brain working faster than fingers :}

THANK YOU - this is exactly the confirmation that I needed to affirm my thoughts about the numbers.

Hi, Karl_K...GIA - yes.
Thought so:
While the stars are around 45-46 the lowers are closer to 78.
I'm thinking the crown is on the steep side of the GIA gross rounding which is a good place to use shorter stars.
The cutter did a good job using the shorter stars.

Thanks, again! I remembered reading your past comments in regards to slightly steeper crown angles paired with 40.6-40.8° PAs and lowers on the longer side, but shorter stars which make everything rather contented.
Was hoping that would be the case here, so hopefully the ASET/Ideal-Scope results come up aces.

What really ticks me off is that GIA in their infinite stupidity took 77-78 lowers which are near universal, they work and look good with a huge range of combinations yet they call one 75 and the other 80 depending on how the averaging falls.

So when it comes to GIA setting their gross rounding tolerances applied to averaged figures...

I love your wit! :lol::lol:
But I what Iove even more is that someone that takes the time to be sooooo helpful to others, gets the help he needs when he puts out the bat signal!
:clap:to you and Karl!

Thank you. And I'm not saying that I am Batman, but nobody has ever seen us at the same time.

I love these threads too!

DejaWiz, is there an upgrade in your wife's near future? :bigsmile:

Hi, Kim N...sorry for not responding earlier.
I was helping someone out with assessing a diamond at this specific carat weight that they wanted for a meaningful/sentimental reason, and wanted to ensure that it will be a stout performer.

An upgrade for my wife is still planned, but a ways off yet. I'm hopefully going to spoil her with something around 3.0-3.2 carats. Let's just say I've already gotten the preliminary talks for price quoting done with JP on a D10. ;-)

That is going to be spectacular. Can't wait to see when the time comes.

Looks like an excellent performer.

Agreed. I forgot to post those about a week ago when the person I am helping sent them to me. Told her that I wouldn't hesitate to purchase it if I was the one shopping.
She just, quite literally, got off the face to face virtual meeting with the product associate and got to see the diamond "live" for the first time while talking about the tweaks and details for the setting that it'll be mounted upon.
Been pretty cool to follow along and see just how much extra that FD will go for their prospective customers...if the JP deal falls through for my wife's upgrade, then FD is on my short list.

Brain... not... working... Who's FD?
