Hi Guys

I need some guidance I have no idea about diamond rings my husband recently bought me one and we are now beginning to wonder if we were ripped off. It is a round brilliant 1.5 F SI1. I have attached photos. Apparently he didn’t take a close look at the GIA cert. there is a crystal in the center of the diamond. I don’t think I see it with the naked eye, although I sometimes think I do as a very bright reflective light. Not sure if we try to to upgrade/ exchange it. Thoughts and help are very welcome! On paper, the stone appears to be very solid. Color is great. Nice size. And if the stone is eye clean, then the right clarity as it helps maximize the other C's.

Also the proportions of the stone are all within ideal range I would anticipate this to be a very firey stone.

While having a crystal on the table isn't my first preference, it may be okay. Is it black or white/clear? Obviously black would be more of a concern.

Have you looked and identified it under a scope? Remember grading is done at 10x so what we see under a scope is normally difficult to see with the naked eye. That said there are SI1 stones that are eye clean and some that are not.

Also, your personal visual acuity plays into the equation. Some people have exceptionally high visual acuity and can see inclusions on VS2 stones with their naked eye from across the room. That is very rare. If you have Superman vision it's less about a bad SI1 and more about your above average eye vision. In that case you may need a VS1+ clarity. Again, very rare that would be the case. The vast majority of people here have eye clean SI1's so they can max out size and color for their dollars.

Have you considered taking to an appraiser and reviewing your concerns with them? I suggest this over a jeweler as the appraiser won't have bias to upsell you a different stone.

Thank you for your reply! We haven’t yet taken it to an independent appraiser, but will do at your suggestion.

I am not seeing any black spots, so I assume the crystal is clear of white.

Your stone sounds beautiful. Any pics of the actual stone?

I also wanted to add for a husband that may not know much about diamonds he did very good, imo. That’s not always the case! Lol

I would echo this thought. I was pleasantly surprised to see the stone's proportions, which tells us the most about the cut. Usually unaided buyers don't do nearly this well. Kudos!

And good luck at the appraiser. PS does have a link of appraisers if you need help. FYI, while I think you may be able to explore more on your own, I think the appraiser will provide what you need most...peace of mind.

Do you have a picture? I have a stone with a crystal inclusion. It‘s white and can only really be seen with a magnifying glass. I love it, it‘s like a little stone in the stone, I think it‘s cool! At the end it‘s personal preference, but it‘s these little imperfections that make your stone unique amongst all others.

Thank you guys for the input feeling more reassured getting your feedback. The crystal and the plot of the diamond took me by surprise. I’ve attached picture .. hasn’t been cleaned for a while. But maybe you can tell me if you see inclusions. I’m not even sure what I’m looking for FE40A49D-8E9F-45DA-B233-6F1A8E1F5D69.jpeg

The stone looks lovely. I don’t see anything that would cause an alarm especially to the naked eye. But then again I’m only seeing one photo. I will say this, there are folks that have a “mind clean” issue and perhaps you are one of those. Because of that they are the ones that stay away from SI1 stones and below. I’m not one of those people just like I’m not color sensitive either. It’s all relative and personal choice.

I wanted to also add I love a 3 stone ring! Enjoy it! He did very well.

Thank you diamondsR4eVR! I think I do have a "mind clean" mentality! DH will be pleased to hear the compliments!

The stats are great. I think the plot is actually quite clean, in all honesty. I think if you haven't seen a lot of plots and don't have a familiarity with what this all means, it can be scary seeing the plot! I can tell you I have a clear crystal on the table of my stone that dropped the clarity grade to an SI2 and I cannot see it, and my stone is larger than yours... 2.01ct in an 8.01mm. So larger stone and larger table crystal than yours and not visible. You have a beautiful ring!

What a beautiful ring! I love the three stone design!

I haven’t seen many. I had a stone previously but the clarity grade was in the VS range, can’t recall which one. But I think it had only one inclusion and it was off to the side. Feedback that this is a fairly clean stone is good to know!
Thank you all on the compliments!
