Need Help With Oval Aset

Hello All.

A little background information. I have been looking for a diamond for an engagement ring for my girlfriend for a few weeks now. We are shopping together so we have been able to narrow down a lot of fields and have come to a point where we need some help from people who know more about this than us.

My girlfriend wants an Oval, over 1.4 ratio (she feels that diamonds in the 1.29-1.33 range just don't really look like ovals to her), Above G color (we have looked at I, J, and K's and they are definitely off the list), and would prefer close to a carat but no smaller than .85.

We have selected one diamond and have received aset images of it, and would like opinions on the diamond and attached images.

Thank you so very much for any help that you able to provide it is very nice to have this resource as we attempt to find the perfect ring for our engagement.

Just in case this diamond doesn't live up to what we are looking for, we have a 5,000 budget for the stone.

As long as she understands that ovals generally don't have great light return compared to some other shapes, it sounds like you have your specs pretty much nailed down. This stone looks pretty nice. The ASET is not good, but most ovals won't be great on light return (as in lots of red in the image). Maybe someone else (from the west coast!) can come help you find some other options. It's getting late where I am!

The longer the ratio the less likely that you'll find a good performer. I personally am not fond of that one but it is better than average, I suppose.

See if they can provide an ASET for this one: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/O93-7Z1357801

This one is okay: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/O100-267Z8Z793

This one might be okay: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/0.91-carat-f-color-vs2-clarity-sku-1994279

Does she like marquise at all?

If eyeclean: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/M105-23578469Z

Is that an EGL report on the one you posted? The "G" color may be lower than a GIA "G" color.

This one may be nice. The thing about oval asets is that the one time static picture just doesnt tell much. Seeing what
happens as the rotate really tells you more. Look for clear, crisp facets through the center that extend to the longer
ends. The further the crisp facets go towards the long ends(N/S) the better the light return will be. Also look for some
decent facets at the N/S ends.

I think this one is worth taking a look...may not be as long as your GF would like

I didnt catch the stone straight on but I have outlined in orange the crisp facets that should give good light return as the
stone rotates.

This is another oval that I think could be worth a look. I actually like this one better.

Thank you all so very much for the suggestions. She has her heart set on a oval and since its hopefully her ring for life we are not looking to compromise especially going so far as to change the cut.

The certificate is the IGI lab in India.

We understand that since were asking for specifications that limit the amount of diamonds that we pull from; that finding a very nice one is difficult. We are having the one in the first post sent to us so we can evaluate size/color/shape (1.5+ ratio) for taste.

We do have a larger than normal time frame to find the perfect diamond and would be more than willing to work over time to find the proverbial perfect stone for us. Could anyone recommend a vendor and or especially a person that would be able to help us find it since we are fairly specific in what we are looking for.

Personally, I think James Allen, Enchanted Diamonds and B2c (any that have pictures) are good places to start. When you are
definitely ready to buy you might try contacting Yuketiel at ID Jewelry. You could also look at Good Old Gold.

This one has a 1.46 ratio but you would need to ask if it is eye-clean. It looks to have good light return.

I know your GF wants a long oval but you really must take into account light return. It does no good to purchase a 1.5 ratio
oval if it's dull and has no sparkle. Light return should really be your top priority. Dont settle for a dull stone just because
it has the ratio you want.

Another one worth taking a look at...

That looks nice...do you have a link to the stone? Can they do a video for you?

It's got a bowtie.

Ask for the video.

I think it looks pretty good in the video in the gem holder. The arrows going across the middle dont stay black all the time which
I am good with. I wish it were putting out more flashes in the spotlighting.

Hello, thank you all for your help so far.

We were wondering from the prosumer perspective how likely it is we will find a better performing stone in the .9-1.0 range.

I.E. Does anyone have any experience with 1.4-1.5 ratio ovals and just under a carat and how rare it is to find an extremely high performing oval.

We really like this one, but neither of us are super excited by the bowtie and were wondering if people who have spent more time shopping for diamonds would know if this is near as close as were going to get to no bowtie and good light return or if it is likely we could find something that has a better light return and an even smaller/no bowtie if we go a little smaller and open the search up.
