I like them both; only the 2nd one shows rose gold as an option on their website, but perhaps you''ve looked into this already.

Well, according to purselover, if you call they may have it and just be not listed. So, hopefully it is, if not I think I would get the yellow gold timeless

Good luck. Try shopping online once in a while until next year, a stone in your budget and specs might pop out then and not wait until the last minute.

If money is tight right now, maybe you could consider buying from an auction or estate sale. Pre-owned rings are less expensive, and it sounds like you are on a really tight budget right now. Would your girl rather have a tiny solitaire Ideal or a medium sized, uniquely set Very Good stone. Sometimes when money is short, you have to meet somewhere in the middle. You will have many years to upgrade to an Ideal if that''s what you both decide.

Well, money was tight, but my plan for this year fell through. So, I am going to wait until next summer when we go on vacation, but even if that falls through again, it will happen next summer. So, I will have a lot more time to save money. And after seeing the timeless ring, I do not thing I can buy anything else. I knew it was perfect right when I saw it.
I am sorry....Keep saving and working towards it, it will happen

This was brought up in the proposal ideas forum. The ring I am leaning towards (link) has the setting in yellow gold. I am going to be getting a .5 carat, I color, round cut diamond. Would the fact that the setting is in yellow gold affect how the diamond appears?

I don''t know if this will affect it, but with the above post the diamond would also have SI1 clarity.

I personally prefer platinum or white gold prongs with yellow gold settings. That way you''re not as concerned about the yellow prongs somehow making the stone look more yellow.

On the Zales site, I found this:
"You might not want to put a truly colorless diamond in a yellow gold setting since the yellow color will reflect in the stone. On the other hand, a slightly yellow stone will appear whiter in a yellow gold setting." link

Is that true, and if so does it apply to the diamond I would get, which is I color

Well cut diamonds reflect light entering through the crown, not the pavillion. The only way you are going to see the color of the setting metal in the diamond is if it is not well cut and some of the facets end up being windows instead of mirrors. A well cut I in this size works great in any metal.

I would say not that much for a well cut stone as light should not be entering a well cut stone from below the girdle. Normal commercial cut stone, this is much more probably.

That is wonderful to hear. I love the timeless setting from JA, and I feel I would have trouble picking anything else now. For well cut, if ordering form JA, should I stick with ideal cut, or is a premium cut acceptable too?

I searched around the forum and I am not going to sacrifice on cut, and I am going to get ideal when I buy the stone.

My final decision (at this point in time at least) is the James Allen timeless setting in 18k gold. The diamond is going to be a .5 Carat I-SI1 Ideal Cut Round Diamond. So, my budget went from $1000 to at least $1200. And as of yesterday I have the exact date picked for the proposal and it is going to be in January

!!!! I do not know how I am going wait for 6 months. I will be asking for advice again when I purchase the ring in December.

Thanks so much for all the help, I would be clueless without it!

Well, I lasted two days being decided haha.

I went to a jeweler today, and he is GIA certified (so I assume that means he knows what he is talking about, am I right?). I was talking to him about a yellow gold setting like the timeless from JamesAllen. He said that a yellow gold setting will reflect yellow onto the diamond regardless of how well cut the diamond is. Also, with only a .5 carat diamond, is this setting too big for it?

I believe this is correct. If you plan to use a yellow gold band, I would have the head and prongs made in white gold.
