I have been searching for a setting for some time now and have not found to many that we like. We are searching for a solitaire setting that is simple yet elegant. I found this one but not sure if they can make it fit a pear based on the prongs they use.

I have found one setting in a mall in Orlando but they want 1100 for it and I think that is way over priced. It isn''t even a designer ring. Can the price be more based on metals the platinum is mixed with? Please help with any ideas.

Also if I did purchase a setting online how would I get it set? Local place, send it out, etc.

If it's in a mall, divide by at least 3 to get close to the actual numbers. If it's around $400 on-line and $1100 in the store, you are in exactly the same ball park.

As for setting, I don't know what to tell you. Try the people supplying the stone first, the mounting second, and a local jeweler third. You really want the people supplying the stone to do it as no one else will guarantee the stone against damage while setting it.

Well thanks for the response Griffin, I will try to get a better deal and see what they say. Other than that I will be on with my search. I hope some pear lovers run acrossed this thread.

From Mark Morrell, a well-respected designer here on PS. He's hard to book, but all of his work seems to be top-quality.

Tresellas recently got her ring and posted pictures:

Shots are a bit blurry... but the setting is very beautiful. It's an A Jaffe which was modified to accept the pear stone. I saw this setting with a round stone in person and LOVED it. The pave is very small and somewhat subtle but sparkly...and the band is thin..around 2mm so it really sets off that center stone, should be even more amazing in person!!

Hi Tazman,

I have a 2 ct pear that is set in a setting very similar to the White Flash ring only mine is yellow gold. I am sure they can modify the head to accommodate your pear. Email Lesley to ask, but I'm sure they'll take care of it. If you send WF your diamond, they can do the labor.

What about the vendor who you purchased the diamond from? Rather than looking at a *maul* jeweler, try some of your local B&Ms. I think their prices for a simple platinum setting will be better than the mall, and many of them can do the work on site and may even allow you to watch which is fun.
