I am getting close to the point of purchasing a diamond and I will probably want an indepedent appraisal. The problem is, I want one to find a somewhat local appraisor. I live in upstate New York near Syracuse. Does anyone have a contact in this area?
It is AGS graded and inscribed. My jeweler already plans to give me an insurance appraisal. I still feel like I should get it appraised independently. Anyplace in my area? Anyone?
Another option...
The diamond is getting set to Vatche for setting. Perhaps it could be sent to an NYC appraiser first? But my concern with that is I do not have insurance on it yet.
I looked at listed appraisers and the closest three to Vatche in NYC are David Wolf, Robert Mark Bunda, and Travis Lejman. Anyone have opinions on there service/prices? What would be included in there reports?
Trying to make a last minute decision here... The diamond goes to vatche today and I have not asked the jeweler to send it to an appraiser. Should I?? From Nebe''s input, David Atlas and Justappraisers sound great.
Well it depends on why you want an appraisal. Some people get appraisals for insurance purposes (if you insure the ring). Does GOG give you an appraisal? Do you care if it is independant? Some people like to verify that info on the cert is correct. I bought a stone from WF and used the appraisal that came with the stone since I felt fine w/their appraisal for my insurance. Hope that helps.
The stone was pulled in by a local jeweler. The AGS number is inscribed on the girdle. I have seen the stone and feel pretty confident in the ags grading. I just noticed that most on the forum here get independent appraisals. My jeweler recomended JM or Chubb and is giving me an appraisal so that i can insure it. I just don''t know if an independent is also necessary...
