I am looking for new diamond studs. I have worn 1.98 tcw studs for the past 10 or so years. I recently had them re-cut in hopes that the better cut would keep me happy and I was planning on getting jackets. But, that did not work out as planned.

I am looking in the 2.4 to 3.4 tcw size (1.5 carat each would be my ideal size)
Shape: round
Color: H
Cut: ideal/excellent
Clarity: VS2 / SI1
Budget: $24,000

They will be mounted in a simple 6-prong setting.

I have never purchased jewelry on-line and have not had good luck with on-line vendors on my own.

My naked ears would greatly appreciate your help!

I just got new studs in the last few days and I always get mine from WhiteFlash because they have their diamonds cut to ideal standards, so they are easy to match. They allow 100% of the purchase price toward upgrades, so if you can't reach your ideal pair at first, you can get some great ones to wear and then upgrade later! That is what I did this time. Diamond prices are high right now, so you may have to adjust your expectations or budget just a bit. Here are a couple of options, though.

I think H SI1 would get you closer to budget, so you might want to call them and tell them to call you when they get a new shipment. I think they get new diamonds in every few weeks. Or you could take a 7mm pair now and upgrade whenever the right new ones come in.

Are your budget and color requirements set in stone?

Here's a pair w/in your budget:

WF has a great upgrade policy and you can go up to your dream size of 1.5ct each in the near future. BTW, I wouldn't spend too much on a setting if you plan on upgrading again.

If you can afford it, I like this pair which you can put in a permanent setting:

I like the look of 6 prongs also on diamond studs!

How funny, you both posted the same fabulous pair that are the 3 tcw(ish) from Whiteflash. Are ACA's worth the higher price? I do not intend to upgrade again. My mom has 4.1 tcw and they are too large for me. My requirements are not set in stone. Thank you so much for your help so far!

Great minds think alike (DS!), LOL! We are both diamond enthusiasts and have purchased studs from WF recently due to the great ACA quality, selection and pricing! If you can afford the 3 ct studs now, go for it then! I'm having WF make my platinum 6 prong settings but Victor Canera would be another great resource for the ultimate setting! Love your engagement ring, BTW!

I cannot find the link right now, but the settings I want are the ones Whiteflash made recently for 6ctw studs for I believe a mother-in-law gift(?).

Those are the ones I want! What are you getting tweaked? Yes, I will get jumbo backs which is what I was wearing with my previous studs.

I'm going to see if they can do claw prongs if possible so that it looks delicate yet sturdy w/ the 6 prongs for my 4+ctw studs. I discussed this w/ Traci at WF so I hope that this little detail will not get overlooked. I also considered having Victor make me a setting as a back up since I love his custom hand made work!

Looks like we will be diamond stud twins if you decide to go ahead w/ your studs! Look forward to seeing what you decide to do!

I called WF. They are looking for a pair for me.

DS & mom2boys, Thanks for the little "push" I needed to get started on this.

mom2boys, When are yours expected to be done?

Looks like they'll be finished before the end of the month according to Vera at WF--but I'm hoping sooner if they get a chance!

I'm sure WF will find the perfect pair for you! Glad DS and I could be enablers in your diamond studs project!

Here are some of my options from WF. Please give input. Are ACA's worth the higher cost? Thanks!

3.008ctw H SI1/SI2 Expert Selection

FYI... If I spend less on earrings, I can also get the 8ctw 3-prong bracelet that I have been wanting to get after I get my earring project is completed.

What is your tolerance for color? I went down in color for my studs to get the size I wanted (you primarily see the studs from the front aspect). But ultimately my sweet spot is H color.

I like H. I am leaning towards I color for these, especially if I get the ACA. Would you recommend going with the ACA over Expert Selection? Do you think in the size I am looking at, it is worth the $6,000 more? I do not mind paying more money if I am going to love them.

WF said they do not expect to get much/any in this size range in the next shipment.

For those of you that have seen an ACA next to an Expert Selection at WF, did you see a difference in performance?

HI:

Didn't (our own) Pheonix have some for sale?

cheers--Sharon

I believe she is going to put them up for sale soon. They are over 4ctw and too large for me to wear every day. Thanks!

I personally like the H VS2 ACA's the best but I think the 3.071 I VS-1 ES pair looks good also for the money. I don't think there is a big visual difference between ACA's and ES but there is a savings to be had! I usually avoid SI-2's in this size range, also.

Love the WF 3 prong tennis bracelet, too!

I decided to get the 3.071tcw on Friday (the price was the deciding factor with being able to upgrade to a higher quality if I received them and did not like them), but it was too late, one got sold.

The 3.008 H VS2 ACA's that were suggested by Mom2boys and DS look fabulous, but I want larger size if paying that much.

I am considering going lower in color and larger in size.
If I go with I color, will the size difference between 7.4mm to 7.7mm be worth the additional cost?
Would it be worth getting J color to increase size but keep lower in cost?

There are several pairs in H color, Expert Selection around 2.6tcw, so is it better to go in this range since it will be a better cut than my previous pair and 7mm is larger than my previous 6.24mm? (This is only enticing for the price because I am super nervous to purchase the more costly earrings online).

Also, I do not want to upgrade size in the future because I do not want to pay for custom settings again. I would rather pay more for diamonds now, but I do not want to pay more if the size or color difference is not really noticeable.

I am sure many of you have had my dilemma, please give your opinions/suggestions. I am confused and my ears hurt from wearing earrings other than studs. Please help. Thanks!

Following are sets I am considering...

WF has been great to work with!

Would it be beneficial to purchase and have WF send me one of the J colored diamonds to check the color? I worry that it will show more color when unset. Has anyone done this? Was it an easy process?

Here's my opinion--I like the 1.7 I VS combo the best out of the ones you posted. I considered the 1.7 J VS combo myself recently but Traci at WF told me that they were visibly tinted. The 1.5 I VS combo would be my 2nd choice if price trumps size. There are a lot of lurkers out there so you have to act quickly!

I know these arent exactly what you are looking for but I had to post them anyways. The bank wire is 11-ish, I do believe, could definitely set them in a 6 prong and still be in your budget

Good luck in your search :wavey:

Thanks nielseel. I prefer RB's.

I assumes :wink2:

But as for youre actual search I would go with I's

WF is pulling one of the I's and one of the J's for me tomorrow to give me an evaluation of the color difference. I am leaning towards the I's and the 1.7 size.

I figure if another lurker gets what I am looking at, it is because something else is out there that is better for me. If the others I was considering were not purchased, I would be waiting on 1.5ish I VS ES's. Now I am going for larger ACA's!

Thanks!
