Hey guys, so i figured out the shape she really likes (cushion) and now need help on how to pick the best one. Can anyone fill me in on what parameters I should be looking for an (ideal cut...etc). I don’t think they have a cut advisor on this shape? I have someone already showing me some stones. I only have cert but no pictures right now. There shop is close so I have to drop by and take a look at them. The specs for what i am looking for is

When it comes to Cushions..., shape is only a small part of the whole equation...,

Find out which appearance she prefers..., modern, vintage, antique..., broken glass or more uniformed...

The GIA reports dont tel too much..., images are a must!
If you have the time.., and are willing to educate yourself..., there is plenty of reading here on PS for you...

And..., dont hesitate to ask..., you will get answers thrown at you in quantities...

Good luck,

This is a great cushion thread with links to photos and diagrams: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/cushion-question-for-cehrabehra-and-others.58597/

Based on the certs you''ve attached, this is the "style" cushion you will likely see: http://www.jamesallen.com/diamond.asp?cid=130&item=1015483 which many Pricescopers call a "crushed ice" type of cushion. The term modified will most often (but sometimes not) give you that crushed ice appearance with tiny pinfire flashes of light as opposed to broader flashes.

A great place to start is Good Old Gold''s website which has videos that illustrate the different types of cushions. Good luck and have fun!

thanks for the tips... i am sure i will be back with answers.

Quick follow-up question for the cushion experts. I have a GIA cert in hand for a "Cushion Brilliant." As a general proposition, do cushion brilliants tend to have the "chunky facets" that I''m looking for? Whereas Cushion Modified Brilliants generally have the crushed ice look?

It can go both ways..., thats why its a must to see the Cushions with the eyes....

Here's an example of the two extremes. If you're looking for chunky facets, you should try and stay away from anyting with the word MODIFIED on the lab report. Again though, there are exceptions. Cushions MUST be seen in person, I can't empahsize that enough. The stone on the left is an "Old Mine Brilliant", which will be difficult to find, but you can find an "cushion brilliant" that COULD look very similar.

I would not take any GIA plots for granted...., I have seen way to many plots and shape id''s that have nothing to do with the actual Cushion in subject..., less the appearance it possesses!!!
