Hi folks,

I recently purchased a .70 carat princess cut diamond from a b & m jeweler in a white gold cathedral setting. (3mm)

(For those of you who followed my story on "Rocky Talk" I traded in the E/I1 stone .80 points for an H/VS2 stone .70 points...and I am so glad to have stone that''s not peppered!!)

Anyway, I am trying to find a band ring that looks good with this setting. The bands at the B & M store where I got my ring don''t match.

Any suggestions? Would you go with a 2 mm or a 3 mm? Any ideas for what looks best with a cathedral setting that''s 3 mm AND a .70 point stone, (especially a princess cut).

I would prefer to get a plain band rather than an eternity band because I want my "small" solitaire to POP and not be overwhelmed.

I look forward to your ideas...you guys are great!!!

Ava, traditional reasoning is that the thinner the band, the more your stone will pop. Also, you might try your ring with a super thin band with stones - I thought the best way to get my .62 to stand out was to have a plain band (I do have a thicker setting though), and nope, it was way too much metal. Having stones in my w-band breaks up all the metal and allows my stone to take center stage.

Hi Ava15. Congrats on your upgrade... It''s always nice to have a stone that you absolutely LOVE!! I don''t think .70 ct is small... Mine is the same size, and a princess too! Can you post a pic of the setting, or a similar setting, so we can get an idea of what your ring will look like! It''s easier to get ideas for a band with pics of the e-ring.

Pretty ring, and congrats on finding a stone that you love

Have you checked www.e-weddingbands.com? I just ordered a 2.5mm flat band from them and they are wonderful to work with, very accomodating. They have a large selection as well.

Very pretty and classic ring. I would go with either a plain band 2 to 3mm wide or something channel set about the same width. Maybe wander the mall and see what styles you like with it then find something online.

What a pretty stone. I personally prefer the a thicker band, my stone was set on a very thin band at first and did not look very proportionate for my taste. I like it much better in the thicker band. I guess that''s probably why I like your setting the way it is. If you do decide to go with something smaller, take your time! You should feel confident that your stone looks lovely as is :)

Ms. Ava,
What a pretty ring you have there!!! The stone looks icy white...
After seeing pics. I would love to see a thin band (2mm) half or full eternity band paired with your ring. I love the baguette idea posted by Sandiego lady.
Then for your anni or something, you can get another matching band and "sandwich" your e-ring between the two bands.... Lovely IMHO.
A plain band might be too much metal for my taste...

ETA: I think the thickness of your e-ring band complements the center stone very well. Good job there!

Thanks for all you ideas and comments everyone! Yes, I love my diamond. It is an H color, but a very nice white if you don''t sit it next to a D!!

SanDiego lady, do you have a photo of your girfriend''s engagement ring and band?

Hello Ava!!

You have a beautiful ring. I also have a princess solitaire (0.78), but on a 2.5mm shank. I wear it usually with a plain 2mm band, which makes it pop.

Looking at your beautiful ring, I would suggest trying a 2.5mm plain band, or a thin band with diamonds... something along the lines of the new Metro Tiffany band - very thin and delicate but sparkalicious. I think that might look very pretty (plus you might get two of them on each side of your e-ring).

The best thing IMO is to go to a jewellers and try a wide variety of bands... go from very thin 1.5mm to 3mm, with and without stones, and you`ll see what look you like best.

Happy shopping!

I wear a scattered stone band with my .88ct OEC--the tiny diamonds highlight the ering without overwhelming it. Both rings are quite thin, about 2.5mm each. Perhaps something like that might work for you?

I hope my photo shows up, I''m terrible doing stuff like this!

Thanks for the pics Sirene and EmpTorres. You both have gorgeous sets and I so enjoy looking at diamond rings. I know the key is trying on lots of bands. I just want to find the perfect one.

I think the e-weddingbands one is coming tomorrow. I will have an update soon!
