Hey everyone, I am new but I have been browsing for a few months and doing my required reading recommended on this and other sites. I think I have narrowed down what I want but I am looking for some advice on dimensions. I am looking for a Princess "very good" cut G VS2. I want to stay in the "G" color range but I am flexible on the clarity. Here are two that I have found please tell me what you think. Also if anyone has experience with white flash do you recommend them over blue nile? Thanks, -Nick

Is there a reason you only want a "very good" cut? Cut is really what makes a diamond perform well...you should really try and get an ideal cut to get the best performance. Cut is king.

And you don't want to buy a stone without pictures and an ASET image if possible. Check out Whiteflash's selection of ACA stones and Good Old Gold's website for starters. They have the info to really make sure your stone is well cut and thus that it will sparkle.

I would recommend WF over BN any day of the week.

Big ditto.

I would like to stay in the 1.2 size range. I know I won''t be able to get an ideal cut but I''d like to get the best I can while staying around $6k for the diamond without setting. Any ideas?

Once set this would look just like a princess and it does not have the risk of breaking at the corners like a princess......also it has a spread of those princess cuts you posted so it will look just as large and this is a better cut so it will sparkle more and be brighter than those you listed...

Ok, I am learning as I go so bare with me. Can you take a look at these 2 IDEAL cut diamonds and let me know what you think? Thanks, -Nick

Princess cuts need to be seen, not much we can tell you from just the numbers unfortunately.

And good on going for the ideal cut! The thing is that an ideal cut will have so much more presence that even if it's a bit smaller it'll APPEAR bigger than an only "good" cut stone that is technically bigger carat weight wise.

Ditto, can you ask Abazias if these are in house diamonds, so they can provide photographs and an ASET image if possible?

See, I knew you guys (and gals) would say that so I have one of the reps chasing down pics and an ASET image for me. Should be here by the end of the day.

Well, Abazias is dragging their feet on providing pictures but I did find 3 others I would like to hear your opinions on. Thanks.

Sorry, you know what's coming, we need ASET's or at least Idealscopes to make a real judgement...but just generally I am not loving that H VVS2 and I'd rather see you spend your money on color than clarity in a princess.

Abazias has the following explanatory remark about their store cut-grade:

"The cut grade indicated is a generalization based off the depth and table proportions as they compare to the American Standard Cut Grade Charts and is not indicative of the overall cut grade that will be awarded by the independent gemological laboratories."

In other words, we have based a cut-grade on 2 measurements only, being table size and total depth.

Compared to some other sites, they at least indicate that they base their store cut-grade on close-to-nothing.

Live long,

That is what I am thinking about the H. I wanted to narrow it down as much as possible before asking for the ASET. Take a look at this one also and let me know what you think. Although its an SI1 it looks clean, what do you think?

http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-912097.htm#

I''m not really liking that one. Pattern doesn''t look symmetrical and there appears to be more leakage than I''d like to see. But I don''t think it would be horrible.

The first stone is the same as one of the Abazias-stones.

With jamesallen, I still need to find an explanation, what the store-cut-grade is based upon.

Live long,

looking at the pics I don''t think any of the 4 has a chance of being AGS ideal performance.

I urge you to go with a WF ACA princess cut. You will NOT be sorry! :) I LOVE mine.

What do you think of this ideal scope?

This is the actual pic of the diamond.

Hey, Nick, you linked the same picture twice. But whichever stone that was, I wouldn''t buy it!

I prefer the IS and "real" picture of the F.

As do I. I have narrowed it down to 2 of them, this F and another F I am currently waiting on an IS and ASET for. Keep the opinions coming but I will start a new thread with the new pictures when I have them all. I appreciate everyone''s help and insight.
