Hi, I am new to the forums and was wondering what everyone thought of the following ring. I was looking at a 1.37 ct, round stone, with an excellent cut, SI1. The color is an "H" and was a little nervous it will look yellow in a platinum solitaire setting. What does everyone thing?
You need to give us more information for anyone to offer anything insightful.
Where did you see this ring?
Is the stone graded and if so by whom (AGS, GIA, HRD, EGL, EGI, Harry''s Diamond Emporium)?
Do you have a sarin or idealscope?
Do you know the stones measurements, such as crown angle/height, pavilion angle/depth, etc?
There are a lot of threads on color and many on H''s quite recently. H''s who are cut really well (do you know this stone is really well cut?) can face up quite white. Also, SI1''s can be a good value, but where is the inclusion and what type is it? Have you seen the stone in person?
Can you get the jeweler to put the diamond in a temporary ring holder, and allow you to compare it to other diamonds of a slightly lower color, for you to see the difference? I think that''s the best bet.
From what I read here, if it is graded "straight," (as GIA or AGS might), H is likely to be OK. But you''ll have to judge. Really, a majority here say even J is cool, and so from that point of view, H is conservative. Then again, for those color sensitive, F might be the best really safe bet, and at least for a minority, as Rod points out, and as you can read here, some have problems with H.
Best if you''re the judge, I think. You can always pay more. Paying less, while being satisfied with the result should be the objective. Though that''s why you''re writing, except to say that H seems to be conservatively reasonable, I don''t think there''s too much more to say.
As the others said, an AGS or GIA graded H certainly is more than fine in platinum. Here''s a thread I started with pictures of two H colored stones that I brought home to decide on one of them. I am also setting my stone in platinum>
