Hi all,

I was hoping to get some opinions on this stone: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-dia...rat-j-color-vvs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-272420

Shape: Round
Cut: Ideal
Polish: Ideal
Symmetry: Ideal
Fluorescence: None
Carat: 0.47
Color: J
Clarity: VVS2
Depth %: 61.3
Table %: 56
Crown: 34.4
Pavilion: 40.70
Girdle: Thin to Medium
Cutlet: Pointed
HCA: 0.9
Price: $990

I'm waiting on AGS cert and additional images, but this is almost exactly what I've been searching for for almost a year (<$1000, 0.45 - 0.49 carat range, eye clean, etc.).

Looks great.

Yes, should be a beautiful stone.

Very nice but would you consider a higher color and lower clarity with ideal cut.

HI:

I'd say your search is over..... :))

cheers--Sharon

I would consider it. However, since my intention is to put it into a setting w/ yellow gold prongs, lower colors are fine. Also, the goal was just eye clean and not necessarily VVS2, this one just happened to be one. I'd probably aim for at least VS2, only because while I know SI1 and SI2 can be eye clean, sifting through was making my eyes bleed. Finally, I've found somewhat difficult to find well-performing diamonds in that carat range. I suspect because most cutters (given the option) would go for a little more weight to pass that 0.50carat threshold.

Update: I'm still waiting for the images and copy of certificate for this stone, but I just noticed today that the stone become Unavailable. Emailed the rep about it, and I'm hoping beyond hope that it's something to do with the certificate or images, and not that it's not bought or put on hold for someone else.

UPDATE: Just got the word that it was purchased by someone else. Back to the search... My fault for not putting it on hold, but I didn't know that my request for images and cert would take this long.

Found a possible substitute for the one I missed out on: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-dia...arat-i-color-vs2-clarity-ideal-cut-sku-272384

Carat weight:0.46
Certificate:AGS
Color:I
Shape: Round
Clarity: SI1
Cut: True HeartsTM Ideal
Depth %:60.90
Girdle: Thin-Slightly Thick
Table %:56.60
Culet:None
Polish:Ideal
Crown ∠: 34.30
Symmetry:Ideal
Fluorescence:Medium Blue
Pavilion ∠:40.80
HCA: 1.1
Price: $1030

*Note: The online description was off a little on the clarity and fluorescence (VS2 and None), but I verified that the AGS report is correct with SI1 and Medium Blue. I'm getting a rep to check that the price is properly reflective, but it does seem to be on par with SI1. And yes, I put this one on hold while figure things out.

So...looks good, or keep looking?

The I does look less tinted than the J. Both look great.

Heartbreaking! I was just going to post to tell you to put that on reserve quick before someone else snapped it up! Lesson learned...

Edit: Oops, should have read to the end of the thread before posting - All's well that ends well - good luck with the proposal!

That's a beautiful ring! Congratulations on making it this far, and good luck for the rest!
