I am looking to buy this diamond for an engagement ring- http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1544223.asp,, as helped by the community here.

I am advised to get a six prong knife edge setting, and here are two i found on James Allen:

http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/platinum-2mm-knife-edge-solitaire-engagement-ring-six-prong-17927p.html
http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/platinum-six-prong-knife-edged-solitaire-engagement-ring-handmade-17192p.html

The question is if the second one is worth the extra 500 dollars?

in my opinion the second one is worth the money. That second one is a classic tiffany style, and the prongs are much more designed and integrated, where the other six prong is so basic and looks more like a budget option.

you shouldnt go over budget but think how long shes going to wear this thing, is 500 really going to be much when you consider cost per wear? :wink2:

The handmade one just looks nicer, and I think is worth the extra money. I would want the stone set higher so I'd ask them to make the head taller.

Between the 2 options, the second one at $1500 will be WELL worth it over time. It is a more delicate look, but with the integrated head, would be a sturdier choice.

I agree with the previous posters. Definitely go with the 2nd setting if you can afford it.

For the JA handmade price I'd rather have a Vatche. Especially since I know Vatche will work with you to make future modifications (dss/upgrades happen).

If you're looking for a simpler solitaire setting for around the $1k mark then perhaps contact David Klass. He has some very pretty 6 and 8 prong designs.
