Edit: sorry title should be $3,500 not $3500k, man that's a big difference.

First of all I'd like to thank everyone on this wonderful site for offering so much information to people like me wanting to educate themselves on Diamonds. So after a long search for an enagement ring I've find two diamonds from James Allen I really like. They are both H&A RB cuts. One is a .8c G VS1 and a .79c E VS2. Here are links:

and
http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/E-VS2-Ideal-Cut-Round-Diamond-1197287.asp

I put specs for both into the Cut Advisor and results were close, a .8 and 1.4 both offering excellent Light Return, Fire, Scintillation and very good spread. My fiance is 6ft tall with a slender build, her ring size is about a 5.75. The diamond will be going into a platinum tapered solitiare setting probably one of these two:

To me these diamonds are close, but I was wondering if anyone can offer their opinion on some of the differences and if one would be a better pick than the other? A couple questions I have are, is going with an E over a G going to make a noticable difference in the whiteness of the diamond? Also I see the girdle size of the .8c is thin to slightly thick, I don't understand how that works, I thought it would have to be something like thin to med, what does it mean when they jump, does it mean that the girdle of the diamond is uneven? Again, thanks for all of your help. I'll post pictures if/when I make up my mind

Welcome!

They are both great diamonds. E and G colour will both be very white and you probably wouldn't notice any difference so it depends on your taste and budget. Thin to slightly thick is fine for a girdle measurement as is thin to medium, slightly thin to slightly thick etc. The thing to avoid is too much variance such as thin to thick, and to always check with a vendor who can inspect the diamond if it has ex thin or very thin to make sure this isn't a durability issue. If only a small portion of the girdle is very thin for example then it can be perfectly fine.

If you are taking a vote on the setting I like the first one best...they are similiar but I like the crown-like setting and the band of the ring
coming up to meet the crown (gosh, I hope you can figure out what I''m saying ). Congratulations on your engagement!

I have to agree with tyt333! I love the first setting! The sweeping prongs look beautiful! Can''t wait to see what you have chosen!
