My SNQueens Setting Journey

It's not for a 45 degree bezel, it's for a tilt of a halo.
The plate underneath the diamonds into which the holes are drilled for the pave stones in your halo are what I am referring to when I say a bezel. You are asking if anyone suggests tilting this plate 45 degrees as it is the plate that is tilted the melee must be flush with the plate underneath:D.

Hopefully you can find pictures of rings with halos and 45 degree plates and post them in your thread. The classic HW micropave ring has a 30 sloped bezel and most copies of this type are from 0 - 30 degrees. I have no idea how anyone could offer you an informed opinion on whether to go to 45 degrees. This doesn't seem like a common design request with the ~1.5 pointers(2.2mm) you are using unless you have seen it or have seen pictures of something like this?

I hope it works out with your current ring, I still repeat I don't think we should be discussing how it should be changed unless you are already considering a remake. Discussions of this nature just give you more doubt and will make you less likely to appreciate the ring you are getting.

If you are already considering a remake and are that exacting it would be worth your while to fly to New York for SK or to LA for VC discuss all details and have them show you examples of each element, drop off your ring if satisfied and then fly back when the ring is ready.

I was trying to put things into perspective for you and genuinely trying to help but I think it just annoyed you so I'll let you continue to obsess. I am not in the trade and have only 10 posts so I guess in your mind I don't really know anything anyway.

This is Pricescope. Welcome. We ALL obsess over technical details.

:appl:

Madelise... I can't wait to see the finished product and I hope it blows you away with its beauty!

Thanks, Miss P! I can't wait to see your 11mm, either! You better not go into lurkdom and keep that thing away from us! :naughty:

No, you don't annoy me because you only have 10 posts. I was trying to figure out where you were coming from. That's why I suggested trade. Your comment about not getting into the technical details suggested an opinion from a trade member that likes to dictate their own work, over exploring the client's needs. This board is very prosumer, so that's why I say it is absurd. If I heard of that comment from a jeweler, I would not work with that jeweler.

Thank you for explaining what you meant by bezel. I'd just call it the halo plate (pre-melee)! I also did say that yes, there are photos all over PS with tilted halos, usually between 0 and 30 degrees. I wrote that in my answer to you. There are no 45 degree halos. This is not a 1mm halo like most people have. This is a much wider one, so I envisioned a more tilted approach. No one offered me any "informed opinion" to my design. I wanted the side profile to show diamonds, not metal, and a 45 degree angle was what I was hoping for.
And again, yes, I am NOT considering a remake, you're really just reverberating the same thought over again. I CAN'T GO TO VC. and I'm NOT remaking it.

What annoys me isn't your suggestions, what annoys me is that you don't read the whole thread.

But anyway. I checked with my first few images, and it seems I wasn't very clear with my jeweler anyway. I wrote 25-30 degree tilt, she wrote 25 degree tilt.. then somewhere along the lines, she said 45 degree tilt, so I got excited and just kept thinking 45. Meh. I think I'm already over it. :knockout: I'm just sick of this process of waiting! I want that damned thing on my finger, NAO!

I know, you guys are right. I got a chance to relax today, and spend some time away from stressful stuff. No martinis, WD! I'm a total lightweight and will get wasted with just one. I hate the taste of alcohol and can only get lighter stuff. lol

DS, do you think the tilt is "enough"? I was thinking more.. almost a 45 degree angle, since it's much bigger than the normal halo.

Yes, I honestly do! I think it would look very odd tilted at 45 degrees regardless of the size of the stones!

Pave is not attractive when viewed from the side. 45 degrees will have people who are looking at your ring from head on seeing the sides of the pave and the metal, not the diamonds. I'd stick to the tilt there now, personally. But if you want it angled a bit more I would still be conservative. When the diamonds are in there it will look very different.

This is my first post after lurking for a while. I can't wait to see your finished ring! When I picked out my diamond and setting I was so paranoid I would not like it. It turned out better than I expected. Designing an important piece of jewelry is a huge undertaking. Please post lots of pictures!

Thanks for all your input! I can't complain or worry about the halo anymore, cus it's set! :loopy:

Here are some less than top notch photos
(They don't usually take photos for their customers, so this is all as a favor to me! So no photography judgement allowed!)

I'm getting excitteeedddddddddd! I just want to get married already!

Those are J-K single cut melee. Wow, single cuts are so pretty IRL but look so funny all zoomed in!

I wonder what size melee they are..

Very pretty! looks like bead set style pave which is suitable to the era of your diamond. Will they milgrain the outer lip of metal? And am I right that there will be pave on the lotus petals on the gallery?

It's looking beautiful!

Thanks Manda!

Dreamer, thanks! No, there's no order to milgrain the outer lip of the halo. There will be some milgraining in the gallery, though, but I forget where. I think maybe on the bottom of the lotus, in that space next to the petals and the shank? And there will be milgrain around the little circle bezels between each flower. I thought about milgraining the halo, but I think I'd go nuts if the halo didn't match the shank, and I don't want milgraining on the shank. Yes, there will be pave on the lotuses!

This wait is keeelllllingggggg me!

Oh, it's coming along beautifully!! I think it looks great!

This is going to be lovely. The halo looks fabulous too.

It's looking great,I can't wait to see the finished product!!!! :appl:

My ring has milgrain around the bezel and none on the shank, though the shank in engraved it does have a plain edge. The difference does not bug me and honestly it is hardly evident in real life. What the milgrain does is soften the edge which I like. You can always add it later anyways.

Hmmm… you're tempting me :naughty: I think I'll take a good looksie when it's on my finger, and decide if I want to stick more on it ;)) Can they really apply milgraining after the melee stones are all set? Would that pose a safety issue to the melee?

eeee I like, I like!!! looking good, how much longer do they think till it's completely done?

Its my understanding that milgrin is applied last anyways, so I imagine it can be added to your ring too if you wanted. But that's something to ask them.

Madelise, I  love  it! I can't wait to see it finished. :twirl:

I have been checking everyday for a post of the finished ring... when wii the beauty arrive? :)

It's looking good! :) Any idea on ETA?

First week or two of September?? LOL, lambskin, if you're getting antsy, imagine how I am! I won't know when SO picks it up! I really hope it comes home to my finger soon!!!! I asked if I'd have it for the LA GTG, and SO said probably not :( darnittttt! I want it nao nao nao!

Well?????????

Hm...any word on this ring? Inquiring minds...

Sorry for the lack of updates. I'm still not betrothed :knockout:
SO went to pick it up a few weeks ago, and went to show my grandmother while asking for her blessing.
If you've been following my story, my grandmother is super important to me.

It is now locked up in a safe somewhere, and I have no idea when I'll have it. ;( I have ruined two of his surprise ideas, and he's quite upset over that. He really wants to surprise me for some weird reason, which doesn't really make sense 100% since I know he's proposing, anyway.

I thought he'd try to get rid of it ASAP, since he hates being responsible for it (the safety, etc). But now that it's safely tucked away in a safe, who knows when he'll want to take it out again.

As soon as I get it, I will post. If I haven't updated this thread… well.. can I start asking for dust? :naughty:

YIKES!! I'm just going to go ahead and throw a bucket of lovely DUST DUST DUST your way, and hope that something inspirational strikes your dear fiance-to-be and you are betrothed VERY SOON!! That ring is too beautiful to be spending time locked up, lonely, sad, away from your finger!!!

DUST DUST DUST --- just because I want to send it to you, along with good wishes! :D

Do you hear that beep, beep, beep? That's a truckload of dust backing up to your place. :cheeky: Good luck! Stop ruining his surprises and you'll get it faster! LOL

So you haven't seen it at all? I hope it turned out as you hoped! Dust!

Thanks, lovely ladies. I just had a cartoon-y vision of a Wile-E Coyote style, huge dump of dust being dropped off by a dump truck from the top of the cliff, with me at the bottom.

T-Gal, No, I haven't. I'm usually a very, very impatient and what's that word? When you think of something, and do it right away without thought? I'm serious, I'm really bad with recalling words. :nono: He's always wanted to surprise me with the setting, then I took that from him. He then requested that I not see the final product until he proposes. Lately, he's changed his mind a few times and asked if I wanted to join him in picking it up, to see it, etc. I stuck with being "good" for so long, that I just want to keep to it. So no, I haven't laid eyes on it yet. I'm totally against guys holding onto the ring forever, while having the girl squirm uncomfortably, and I've been a roller coaster of emotions… but.. I guess I took control of everything, I should let him have this bone. I know that the overall consensus on this board is also of a similar taste-- that men shouldn't be controlling like that, or whatnot.. and trust me, I've been upset, and have even dealt with weird "Is he having cold feet?" thoughts. I'm just trying to distract myself with my other bling, and with school.. and just focus on the actual state of our relationship-- that we are happy, and that I am extremely lucky to have such a supportive, happy, silly boyfriend that spends hours with me on our only day together of the week, sitting there patiently while I do homework.

Whoa, sorry for the vent. I'm happy, I'm ecstatic, I'm worried, I'm angry, I'm a roller coaster, fasho!
But had I not known anything about this ring, and this upcoming proposal.. I wouldn't be in this predicament! Maybe I should have just let him chose the ring

…NAH!
