OK everyone. Here it is! My very first colored stone purchase! A pink asscher spinel from Dan Stair. 1.07 carats and 5.14 mm

I am really NO good at taking pics of stones. I'm almost embarassed to post these. The color is great. It's pinkish inside and outside it does get some red to it, but that didn't come across in the photos. It's a bit darker in fluorescent lighting. I see a teeny teeny tiny very small tint of brown I think. People at work don't really see that. It's really a flattering color in the fluorescent lighting. I like it a lot! I just wish I could do it justice in the pics.

Now I NEED your help!! I need a setting. White gold. Maybe some diamonds. Was thinking tapered baguettes? Not sure. TL suggested a halo in my previous thread. But I don't know if the stone is big enough. It might be dwarfed by a halo. I should have done a hand shot. Will have to do that one later as I'm at work.

Thanks everyone! I really wish those photos did justice to the stone. How in the world do vendors take photos? This annoys me that I can''t do better than that.

Any thoughts on settings? I really want to get it set so I can show it off. Being my first project I''m kind of antsy. Later on if I have stones sitting around I''ll be ok with it.

Is it pink or wine colored? In the photos it''s looking more of a deeper wine color.

You chose such a beautiful stone! I love a little brown saturation in pink and and green stones. It just brings out the beauty in them for my preference. I just love your spinel.

It appears that way to me too. Also, is this an asscher or a square emerald? My apologies if I come across as a wet blanket.

TL - it''s more pink than wine. Maybe a pinky-plum. . . but not as dark as wine. No where near that dark.

Okay, just curious because I was wondering if a particular color gold would be better. I think a rose gold would be nice since it looks good with more plum stones. If it were a pure pink, then I would think white gold.

Be different!! Rose gold is just so "in" right now. I think the rose gold will look better than the white with a plum color. JMO.

I would definitely go for rose gold! It would accentuate the pink really nicely!

I have to agree with some here that white gold is not a good idea cause it might wash away some of the color, while yellow or rose gold would IMO make it richer. Since you said you only like white, there''s a solution for that too; make the basket and prongs (i.e. the part in which the stone will sit) in rose or yellow, while doing the rest of the ring in white. BTW, I''d suggest using step cut accent/side stones, cause mixing brilliants with a step cut can be tricky (they tend to overpower or "oversparkle"). Even halos can be done with step cuts, like THIS or THIS, or even THIS. I''m not suggesting a complete copy of either, but instead want to show you that halos don''t have to contain round melee. But honestly, I think your tapered baguettes idea is better than any of these

This is clearly a pretty different "vibe" to your stone, but I''m just loving this style of ring for asschers lately - of course, if you are working to a budget just scale down the size of the side stones. Ditto ma re on using step cuts if you want a halo or side stones.

I think these may be french cuts, but you could just exchange for emerald or carre cuts..

It is a modified asscher, not a true asscher. There are no windmills and the shape isn''t a perfect octagon.

Hoof,
I would not do any halos. The stone is too small and a halo will completely hide the stone. Either something with diamonds in the shank or a plain metal setting with something around it to make it look larger.

Hi Chrono - I realize how the windmills work, but I didn''t know that an asscher would need to be a perfect octagon to be classified as such..?

You are correct that an asscher does not need to be a perfect octagon but I think the royal asscher is a perfect octagon.

How do windmills work? Interestingly I thought this had windmills. Looking at it - well it's so small that it's hard to tell. Everything blends together. . . hmm. . . either way I love it.

I'm really not into rose gold. I actually prefer colored stones to be in white gold. I know you all say some colors are complimented in rose gold. But for me any kind of color takes away from the colored stone. JMO. I will think about it though. I am going to stop at a local jeweler this week and see if they have any settings I can plop it into to get an idea of what I might like.

This is the kind of style with baguettes that I like but not two tone obviously.

I also kind of like this style.
