My pear diamond arrived yesterday! It's this 1.5 E VVS2 beauty:

https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/Pear/GIA-Certified-1-5-Carat-E-Color-VVS2-Clarity-Diamond-7SDVJ9

I took it to the appraiser today which was lots of fun -- he explained everything as he went along and I found it all very interesting, especially looking at his master color set.

I'm off to Quest Jewelers early next week to talk about a custom setting.

This forum has been so incredibly helpful -- I've spent hours and hours here reading posts and learning about diamonds. Thanks so much.

Congratulations! It's lovely! :appl: Do you already have ideas or inspirations for your custom setting?

What! No pictures!!! What are you thinkin' heading off to Quest without posting any pictures! Seriously, when you agreed to the
PS terms to become a member you agreed to post pics! You have clearly forgotten the agreement you signed up to!

I sure do have ideas regarding the setting! I've kind of been all over the place with it -- at first I thought I really wanted a halo, but now, especially since my diamond has arrived and I've seen how big it looks, I'm thinking not.

FIRST THOUGHT: To bezel or not to bezel? I really like the idea of a relatively delicate bezel with milgrain -- but I hesitate because I really don't like the look of the bigger bezels without milgrain -- not on my finger with a pear anyway.

I do really love this (the "Rachel Lily"):

And this:

And this:

https://www.pricescope.com/forum/files/single_stone_setting_vld092.jpg

But even this looks a little chunky to me:

And then there is this that makes me think that maybe a halo would be pretty after all (but so many diamonds are probably way out of my budget):

SECOND THOUGHT: Metal color .... I love rose gold. So much so that I am even considering a plain rose gold rope twist. But I hesitate because I wonder if I shouldn't put such a white diamond in rose gold? So I'm thinking I might ask if there could be some kind of double bezel, with white gold milgrain next to the diamond and then some rose gold milgrain next to the white gold milgrain or somehow incorporated into the shank. Haven't been able to find a picture that looks anything like what I'm thinking here. This is far too bling-y for my taste, but I do like the two-tone effect here:

THIRD THOUGHT: Maybe something simple that isn't a bezel with just a few side diamonds? Like this (milgrain again, I guess I really like it):

FINALLY: I do return again and again to the simple rose gold rope twist solitaire setting.

Beautiful Pear! I see that you purchased the stone from Enchanted diamonds? I've dealt with them in the past and if you provide pictures they can custom make anything your heart desires. And will provide a cad prior to making. Personally I would set the stone in white metal as the yellow or rose gold could cast a tint on this beautiful E stone. If you like the antique look check out sylvie.com. They have some beautiful ring designs that may suit your fancy. Good luck with the setting - it will be beautiful regardless of what you chose.

Although I'm happy with the diamond, dealing with Enchanted was definitely not the best experience so I wouldn't consider working with them to set it. Anyways -- I'm lucky -- the fantastic Quest Jewelers is a ten-minute drive from my house.

I agree - I've recently purchased from another vendor as my last purchase with Enchanted Diamonds wasn't as smooth as it's been in the past. Your pear is absolutely beautiful - I have a pear and the ring design was done by Sylvie which is located in Texas. My local jeweler helped me to select a setting designed by Sylvie and it's stunning. Milgrane with halo and split shank. I decided to have mine set in one large ring rather than dealing with an engagement ring with a band. Personal choice. It's a modern antique look and I just love it. Can't wait to see what you decide for a setting. I'm a pear nut!

And I apologize for the lack of pictures -- I'm really struggling to photograph it with my iPhone. Will try to find my actual camera tonight and see if I can't get a picture that is at least recognizable as a diamond as opposed to a big blob of light.

The link that you provided from enchanteddiamonds.com has a great pic and video of the pear. It's absolutely stunning. I look forward to seeing the finished product. Pears are not ordinary and shows that you "think outside of the box". Love it! I wish you well with your choices of settings!

If you like rose gold and platinum/white gold, you can always set the diamond in platinum and have a rose gold shank. This isn't the best example, but the first thing that came to mind. It was very common in vintage jewelry to mix metals.

You picked a wonderful pear!!

Don't know if you have yet seen photos of Niel's pear diamond ring, but it's my all-time favorite pear ring because I think the bezel contour of the stone itself, the beautifully proportioned halo, and the plain shank is such a marvelous combination that's especially well suited to a pear. More pics, including hand shots here:

And Quest's rift on this Ritani Endless Love mounting should be more budget-friendly than a ring with a paved shank.

That is GORGEOUS. I'll be showing pictures of this at Quest for sure.
