My new untreated sapphire!

Hey all, I recently purchased an all natural sapphire, 2.27CT, loupe clean, vivid/cornflower blue. I wanted something a little softer/velvet like Kashmir, it's from Madagascar! Tell me what you think!

When purchasing this stone, I narrowed it down to 2 stones; both with vivid saturation, but one was crystal clear/higher brilliance and this one was slightly softer but the color really came out more in all lighting. I wanted a top stone, and I chose this stone because I believe it was best. Can anybody weigh in on this? I have come to believe that a slight softer stone like this one scores higher then something clearer. I sacrificed some brilliance for color. I know at the end of the day it is really a preferance thing but I'm just curious!

I think color is king in colored gemstones, there is no real trade off to me. The point you made about the stone you chose showing better color in various lights is an excellent one - you will not always have the perfect light at your disposal and you definitely want a stone that perferms great in all conditions, which is not a given! Of course cut and crystal are very important, but color dominates.

Brilliance has a bling factor to it that, while very nice in less saturated stone (pastel-like if you will), is less important than color in my opinion. Plus, as a man you may not desire excessive brilliance on a ring but that’s ultimately up to you.

I would have chosen the same you did, no doubt. Great stone!

recutting is a complex process. I don't see any of the usual stuff that would benefit from a recut here (like windows, big belly, etc).

They were gifted to me from a dear friend who helped me source my ruby. He sent them out with the stone when he shipped it I will ask him today and get back to you!

I was told you can use the heat shrink rubber tubing used in electrical wiring.

From the front it looks as if the gem is not symmetric or has uneven outer edges. I would prefer those with 90degree angles. How does it look from then side?

Yes, the stone isnt precision cut, it is native cut. But very well done. It is slightly offset, but I don't mind. The material is top quality. Like said above, it's not worth a recut.

I can tell you how to make your own.
Get some pieces of heat shrink tubing used to seal electrical wiring, put it over the ends of the tweezers, and heat it with a cigarette lighter, torch, or even a hair dryer and it will shrink up to fit tightly on the tweezers.
