Please advise on this eternity ring. They say the stones are antique with clarity si2-i1 (I thought maybe won’t be too much of an issue given their size?) with a total weight of 1.36 ct. The shank is definitely new as per the cast hallmark.

Is this a yay or a nay, and why? What would a reasonable price be?

It’s possible the poor clarity could affect the optics even in smalll atones. Those diamonds look very clear. Ar ensure that’s the exact ring you would be sold?

I assume so- It’s an eBay purchase from a vendor with several thousand positive feedbacks. I hope so? Do these look like antique rose cuts? Rose cuts seem very tricky to evaluate from stills. There is a video but not good quality.

I was watching it a while ago and missed it, and it has resurfaced.

I’d still ask.

Can’t tell if they are new or old or even if they are natural!

Ok so the fine print says this is the ring, the stones are natural :)

To me, rose cuts are finicky and at that size you will really need to see them with your own eyes to decide if you like the way they perform. They don't look overly included in those photos. I found the listing, and the price seems great to me, particularly since you have the option to return if you don't like it.

Wow good catch! So I looked and this seems to be another ring to the one I bought. It’s 0.03ct heavier diamond weight and half a size bigger. The pictures are the same. I emailed the seller for clarification but it does seem they are two rings in the same style. The one I just one was an auction. Presumably they would make them all relatively the same quality?

It makes sense that they would be similar, particularly if the seller got a big parcel of stones and is just making the rings in different sizes. However, the seller has 3 identical bands for sale and each listing says "pictures are of the actual items you will receive" but uses the same pictures for all 3 listings. I would imagine it's more lazy than shady, but would it be worth another $40 to get the eBay authenticity guarantee?

I’ve never used the authenticity feature on eBay- coming to Australia I’ve had items that say “free authenticity guarantee” but never paid for it, and don’t know much about how it works. I think I read there is a tolerance of about 2 colours and clarity grades.

Assuming it passes their authenticity checks and I was unhappy with the quality I could send it back to the seller and wear the cost of the check and postage.

What is your experience?

Lalas added info makes me more convinced that they put the bands together when you buy and the diamonds may look different than the image. I hope it works out but when they say I1 rose cuts it could mean bad stuff.

Do you think it’s worth the gamble?

They sent me an offer for $80 USD off which puts it at $369 USD. Is this suspiciously cheap for 1.39ct of diamonds….

I love a bargain, but at that price, and considering the cost of gold and labor, that's basically giving it away. Something doesn't add up. I would expect the stones to be lousy.

Yeah I tend to steer clear of diamond they admit to be I1/i2 bc it usually means frozen spit. Plus not seeing an actual picture (or being confident it’s the actual picture) would be a no go for me.

Yes, not feeling good about this. The rest of their inventory looks poor quality with a lot of silver based pieces. I certainly live a bargain but as I’ve recently been reminded, if it seems too good …
