Okay I just got the call today that my dress is in! I''m going to go in probably by June and get fitted. Any tips before I head in?
I have my shoes ready to go. I''m a bit concerned about the size since they ordered me a 12 and I had no problem fitting into the 8 sample, they said it probably stretched closer to a 10 in size but still a 12 makes me concerned that there may be a lot to alter. Better than too small though of course! Anything else though I need to make sure to tell them before they chop it up?

Anyways (for the 100th time), here''s the dress... now I need veil suggestions? I''m 5''3" tall and I''m having a marie antoinette themed outdoor garden wedding. I''m clueless on what length to get. The dress is white. I''ll probably do a wavy loose updo type thing with my hair.

Silk tulle, catherdral, plain cut edge.

First, are you sure you''re a veil girl? If yes, I''m seeing a cascade down your back fastened under your updo. That''s not very imaginitive though and doesn''t seem to do justice to you or your fantastic dress.

A tiara seems more appropriate -- or, going with the Marie Antoinette theme - a crown! A crown with a veil attached at the back? Or maybe tulle cascading down your back but fastened with feathers.

I''m sorry, that wasn''t very helpful. That dress is so spectacular on you that it''s hard to picture you with anything that might detract from it.

i don''t know how marie antoinette-ish this would be, but what about a birdcage veil? people have very love ''em or leave ''em reactions, but i think they''re so chic, and would look great with your gorgeous dress!
example

Gypsy - A cathedral veil will work with a chapel train length dress? Do you know of any photos of mermaid dresses with cathedral veils. (I had read somewhere though this was recommended). Also any veil sites you could point me to?

Minims - I''m not sure i''m a veil girl per se but I want to be somewhat traiditional and I love the idea of a veil. The theme is marie antoinette-ish but i''m definitely not a tiara crown person. I have purple hair and lots of other stuff going on with me to add more glitz to my head I think.

luckyfish - honestly a birdcage veil would probably look great with the dress I have but I don''t think personally I could pull it off. It''s not too me anymore. I used to be more vintage-y but not so much these days.

Hey I haven''t done my hair trial yet...

What should you do first, hair trial, then buy the veil or vice versa?

I would try on veils with your dress first, then do hair trials (since you typically have to pay to have your hair done!) I can see your dress standing alone with maybe a great headpiece (think tiara, but not the "crown" type, more of a sparkly headband type deal), or a birdcage veil, or really whatever you want!

You have a ton of options with that dress. It''s spectacular on its own. Honestly I wouldn''t want to detract from the overall drama of the dress with a very dramatic veil...but that''s just my opinion!

Best of luck in your search!

Thanks for the tips monarch! I think you may be right in terms of 'drama' and the veil. My FI wants me to wear my hair up but my hairdresser thinks my hair looks best when it's down. So that will all play into it I'm sure.

I'm not sure I should wait to do hair before veil though since what if my hair looks great period and the veils won't fit in anyways, then problem solved or is it the opposite way around? I'm still confused on this one.

Thanks again!

I just saw this awesome picture of what gypsy was talking about I think, now i''m waffling on the dramatic veil idea.

GYPSY! I have another question, If I get a veil I want the blusher part I think for the whole lifting back of the veil dramatic bit. Is that too much veil? Should I just be doing a single layer tulle or is adding the blusher ok? Is that considered two layer at that point?

I don't know what you will think of this veil, but I think it's so special:

Cathedral Length Bustled Veil

I had never heard of a bustled veil before. I wanted to get this veil, but it seemed a bit much for my elopement.

It has two tiers so one can be used as a blusher. They also sell a removable blusher separately that could be added to another single tier veil.

I wound up getting a ballet length veil from Encore Bridal and am very happy with its quality. I was also very, very pleased with the owner, Julie's responsiveness (very thorough and prompt) to my many veil questions. And, they accept returns!!

You might want to send Julie an e-mail asking her for advice regarding your dress specifically and what your looking for. I'm sure she'd be able to provide lots of helpful guidance.

I saw you asked for veil sites above. There are two that I've seen recommended on various wedding boards (I haven't used either one personally (yet), but I've been browsing them myself). They are both a "build-your-own veil" kind of operation seem pretty affordable too, which is always a plus:

For your gown, I could totally see you in a cute short veil like this. I think it kind of mirrors the shape of the lower portion of your dress. But then again, a longer veil may be more fun to wear. Anyway, good luck with the decision!

You can do whatever you want-- you can do a detachable blusher. But personally I'd to a single layer tulle flowing down your back. And I would do the silk tulle because it's the lightest most airy fabric for a veil and would just be the finishing touch. Have you seen ephemery's wedding pics? Her viel is what I was thinking of, in terms of streaming down your back hers had a ribbon edge, and I'm not sure its completely catherdral in length though. Let me see if I can find it.

Loves Vintage - I''ve never heard of a bustled veil either! the bustle is in the front??

Havernell - I''d though a poufy short veil may be a lot of fun but I''d have to see one on.

Gypsy - I like the idea of the drama of a very long veil, does cathedral length work on an outdoor garden wedding? i''ll be walking through grass and rose petals. I would remove it all during the reception though.

Hi Violet,

Based on the description and the photos, it looks like both layers of the veil are bustled with rhinestones - 5 on the long layer and 3 on the short layer. You might be able to see it better on the veil company''s (Veil Trends) site:
Veil Trends Bustled Veil

This my veil, a ballet length, which has some of the drama of a longer length veil, but is much more manageable for outdoor weddings:
Ballet Length Veil

Same ballet length at Encore Bridal:

Finally, I think you were asking about wraps/jackets the other day. I just noticed these pashminas on the Veil Trends site -- 100% of the proceeds go to help the handicapped of Nepal. That''s so nice! Pashminas

Not to threadjack, Violet, but I just had to say that I LOVE

your ring!

Amandine - Thanks for the ring compliment!

Loves Vintage - I just talked to my wedding planner, she's pretty against the idea of a veil that's any longer than the ballet length veil you posted which looks actually pretty great for an outdoor wedding! So I think i'm either going to do the more modern short poofier veil or I'm going to go with a length like what you suggested. I'll have to try them on.

My planner was saying it will get caught on things if we drag it through the grass, if we sling it over my dad's arm on the way down the aisle she feels thats fine until some gust of wind comes through when I'm standing up front and tries to pull it off my head! We'll be having the wedding very very close to the ocean and I have a feeling there will be some wind probably.

So now I have to find some photos of shorter shoulder length or elbow length (?) veils for comparison with mermaid dresses. Sigh. If anyone has great pics post the links!

Hi violet! I don''t have any photos, but I will look for you. I love your ring, btw!

I also really like the ballet length that Loves Vintage posted!

I bought that exact Birdcage. I have no input other than I wanted to say I love your dress and your tats!!!!!
