Omg, what fabulous gems! And I ADORE that new sapphire ring. So icy! Something a snow queen might wear. Just beautiful. Thanks for showing these beauties.

Lol Norman, you should see how gem studded the locals can get when attending events. My collection is too small and petite for them to even bat an eyelid!

Thank you, Bluegemz! That sapphire, after setting, exceeded expectations. I love the iciness too, although it's not a trade ideal colour.

Got my 4ct spinel set in Singapore in 18k wg handmade pendant with some small diamonds. Went for simple as the colour of the spinel is so yummy and summery. 20170516_161833-1.jpg 20170516_161831-1.jpg 20170516_161645-1.jpg 20170516_161653-1.jpg

Wow Burmezedaze, what a juicy, large spinel! It's like a berry or a pomegranate morsel. You are right, great for Summer, (but Fall and Winter as well.)
It must be wonderful to be around so many spinels !

Back to the gem museum after a 2-week hiatus :D

Here are some new type A jadeite carvings done by a Chinese carver in Myanmar, so it's somewhat better than what the local carvers can achieve. I was quoted US$200 each and am thinking about getting the oval one with the swan carving to wear as a pendant. Though I'd need to fix a white gold bale with some small diamonds on it.
Most of the animals on these carvings are supposed to be the Chinese Qilin, chimera. I rather fancy the bird piece that has more green and relief, but it looks somewhat unwieldy and off on proportions.

Burmezedaze, how exciting! I love the jades, especially the top left one, ( because of the wide shape). Please do show if you have the chosen one set? I'm sure it will be gorgeous. It's interesting that Chinese craftsmen excel at jade carving more than the native people in Burma. Is this driven by demand in China?
Also, what a great jade bean pod for a gift. Just lovely and so kind of you.

Picked up a pair of rhodolite garnets over the weekend for earrings. Will just have 4 claws and they can go with my existing diamond jackets. Just over 4ct tcw. These are on the reddish pink side.

Bluegemz, after sleeping on it I decided to forgo the jade carving. I think I'd only like to ultimately get a couple and I'd prefer stronger colours, otherwise the carving gets lost in relief when worn or viewed from afar.

Since you like coloured jade, I'll take some pics of the blue jade bangles they have in the glass cabinet that houses the pricey stuff when I go again. They are translucent water jadeite and blue with some grey, but it's a rich shade. But, way too small for my giant wrist. Also, out of my budget :)

I understand what you are describing about the color of the pendant, and how the design can remain obscure without stronger body color. I think that's wise because it might bother you eventually and then the money is already spent.
I would LOVE to see the blue bangles! Also, what sizes are typically carried? Also, I'm curios about the prices. Very kind and much appreciated!

Bluegemz here are the jadeite photos I took today just to show the variety of shades available. Unfortunately the best blue water jadeite bangle is already sold. That was a US$7000 piece and evenly blue. The ones remaining have c colour variations but are still blue-grey. Around us$4000-5000. They are around 56mm diameter.

Other coloured jadeite pieces. All type A.

On the bangles in the prior post, I meant to say they have some colour graduations, not c colour variations!

This pair of blue jadeite earrings in silver and set with tiny purple sapphires took almost2 months and underwent 2x revisions as the silversmith could not get the proportions right. Here's the final product, to go with my blue and green jadeite necklace in silver.

I also picked up the 1.4x pink untreated Mogok sapphire and a pair of off white jadeite cabochons. The cabochons have a very nice glow probably owing to the "salt grain" texture that can't be captured by my mobile phone. They look like moonstones from some angles when the light hits. Plan to set them with closed yellow backing and just 4 claws to go with my diamond jackets.

No plans for the small pink sapphire yet and I haven't seen any new and larger ones for sometime.

Burmezedaze, THANK YOU! Fabulous pictures and very informative regarding price. The bangles have fabulous, fine texture and grain. And those cabochons! That large blue/purple one is great....

Your new earrings are beautiful. Will be perfect with your necklace. The proportions are lovely now. I know how important that is to the beauty.

And, love your new gems. The pink is bright and happy, and the icy cabs are magic! Just a minute ago I was browsing for icy cabs just for fun. How will you set those?

My little box of little Burmese untreated loose sapphires. Happy colours!

No plans for them yet as they are on the small side at 1.x ct each.

A jadeite pendant intended as a gift :)

Those colors are so pretty! I love it that you have such different sapphire colors in one box. That jade is cool too!

No idea tierra-B and the majority of the settings are done in Hong Kong. I avoid native settings. Please have a professional lab or appraiser take a look at yours.

I bought the row of rhodolite garnets to be set into a simple white gold bangle at a later time. These are from Kachin state in Myanmar, US$5/pc for the small ones.

And a green jadeite piece my friend's MIL selected for a simple pendant. Nice green but rather opaque texture and a flat shape. But whatever she likes in her 60s.

Burmesedaze, those garnets will be lovely in a bangle. Garnets really are amazing.

The jadeite is a lively color green!

Picked up a jade bangle (because it's hard to find one that measures 68mm to slip over my tough bones!), a 1.35 ct untreated peach-pink Mogok sapphire to add to my happy box collection and more rhodolite garnets for the half bangle I have in mind. Also found 2 more that match the pair for earrings so I can do a dangling design instead, with a simple diamond connector piece between the 2 garnets.

Burmesedaze, This garnet project is going to be great! Getting earrings is SUCH a wise choice too. and your new sapphire is delightful!
Congratulations on your new bangle!!! I love it because of the restful greens and stormy quality of composition and transitions. It's as if it is born from a place which exists between green land, water and clouds.

Thank you, Bluegemz, beautifully described by you :)
Not bad for a US$30 bangle! I don't usually like patterns but these white mists go well with the grey green that is semi translucent and give it an otherworldly look in total.

My jeweller bought them as a lot of 8 bangles from the same stone from the trader hence the wholesale price. This was the nicest. The rest have more white in them :D

Isn't it amazing to see a nest of 'sister' bangles and to be able to choose one! the only experience I had was choosing a yellow/white bangle from 2 sisters. It was extraordinarily satisfying. Your bangle really shows why jadeite is so magical. There is so much poetry in jadeite, and so much complexity. Your bangle has an entirely rich mood/personality in it.
