Ok, Ma Ruby currently has rubies and sapphires on hand. Would you be interested? Natural untreated ones.

We can meet at the Gem Museum (older looking building), 1st floor - up 1 level from ground floor - shop at centre aisle called Snow White or you could ask the folks there. I'll be there from 1-ish pm onwards and lunch with them :)

If you're keen, we could ask Ma Ruby to come to Gem Museum too to show her rubies and sapphires on Saturday afternoon to simplify things.

Looking forward to learning from you on gems! I don't have a particular wishlist for Bkk, maybe pink or rubellite tourmalines, Mahenge garnets or spinels if they have them there and opals.

See you at Snow White then!

Would love to see Ma's Ruby but I'm not sure how prices are in Yangon. It's been 3 years since the last time I was there. I might feel bad if she goes out of her way and I don't get anything! Unless you'd like to check yourself?

Ethiopian opals are very affordable now! Tourmalines have nice deals at fair as well.

No problem, I understand :) erh prices gone northwards as the living costs have gone up by a lot too, along with more wants and consumerism.

Seeya at Gem Museum on Sat :) safe travels!

Burmesedaze,

Thank you for showing me around the Gems Museum!

I'm pleased with my purchases and it was fun looking around.

The purple star sapphires turned out to be color changers (grape color at store light and purplish blue in sunlight).

The spinels also way lovelier in sunlight and clean stones!

I've noticed no one advertises or puts forward color changers at the museum? The rubies and pink sapphires are lovely at the stores. Lots of electric pinks!

Thanks for showing me your jewelries as well. I like your 3 carat lavender sapphire ring the best!

Thanks for viewing, Stone Hunter :)

Hey Seaglow, it was lovely to shop with and learn from you. Awesome to have met Liz on Saturday too, such a coincidence!

Mmm I think it's taken for granted that most stones would change colours to varying degrees under different lighting conditions, or else they never had numerous requests for colour changers.

Good hunting at the Bangkok gem fair :)

Some stones from last weekend.

Small spinels on the 4th finger and sapphires on the middle finger over 1 carat each.

Was good and didn't get anything :)

No stones! The sellers from XXXXX kept changing the carat price of the moonstones, opals and tourmaline I was eyeing I gave up in disgust. There was a rectangular paraiba tourmaline but he couldn't tell me where it's from and claims there's no heat treatment.

I did get a 20x loupe, Inox tweezers, cleaning cloth, trays and 44cm of sterling silver for a charm bracelet.

How did you find the Paraiba? And did you saw mahenges?

Included lol but a nice glowy blue, though not as rich a hue as others I see on this forum.

No... Not a single mahenge in sight. There were a number of empty booths so maybe the better quality stuff left early?

I tried looking for a long 18k rose gold necklace but they only came in standard 16 to 18 or 20 inches max.

A suite of natural untreated Mogok sapphires. Rare colour for the region. Pretty good cut and relatively eye clean. 1.6 ct, 2.61 ct and 2.81 ct. The trader is looking at around US$2400 for the lot.

Passing up on them as I don't think the colours will appeal to me after setting. Interesting to look at, nevertheless.

That's quite a lot for your side of the world as the colors are pale! And given you've got pretty unheated nicely toned, and nicely saturated stones within your reach.

Picked up some stuff today :)

A pair of Spessartine garnets supposedly from Mogok weighing 2.75ct, a pair of round lapis lazuli and a jade cabochon set in a 12mm sterling ring blank that I had ordered from Etsy years ago.

The spess will be fitted with prongs to go into the diamond jackets I have. The lapis lazuli have been passed to the silversmith that dropped by today to be made into earrings too.

A pair of untreated sapphires from Baw Mar mine. Around 1.7ct each but face up around 2ct. Will rely on my jeweller's negotiation skills before deciding to buy as it would be my most expensive purchase if so. I would also run them through a lab back home next home visit.

Took a lookie at these today after work. It has been a very trying week and more ahead to come. Gotta destress:)

A 2.84ct light pink Mogok untreated sapphire, decent native cut and pretty clean.

A pair of untreated Mogok red rubies on the lighter side. Gorgeous colours with a bit of orange. Silk can be seen in 1 of the stones but both are pretty clean for untreated rubies. They face up over 1 carat each. Actual weight is just over 1 carat, no culet. The trader used gold coloured closed backing hence the lovely shade. Asking price is just under US$5000.

Negotiating on the first and passing up on the second :)

Since I didn't manage to negotiate for the pink sapphire, I picked up a 4.51ct purple Mogok spinel and an amber necklace instead.

Bottom row cushion cut is the new spinel that faces up smaller as it has a deep culet. These indoors white lights don't do any justice to CS at all.

Loving the light blue untreated Mogok sapphire ring I wore to work today. I swear it put me in a chipper mood all day!

3.6ct sapphire, 18k WG with 0.67ct diamonds. Well under US$2000 :) 20170329_095521-01.jpeg 20170329_095506-1-01.jpeg 20170329_095459-1.jpg

Thanks, elle:) I'm loving how the stones look so much nicer after setting.

Have a pair of blue jade and a pair of lapis lazuli earrings with the silversmith for a custom design next.

I like non-traditional coloured jadeite and picked up the middle jadeite bead necklace today. It has a middish translucent texture and a greyish blue-green colour that's different from the other 2 blue-toned more opaque IMG-20170430-WA0008-01.jpeg IMG-20170430-WA0007-01.jpeg jadeite bead necklaces I have and pictured alongside.
