MY BROTHER IS ON THE PHONE WITH GOOD OLD GOLD

BUYING AN ENGAGEMENT RING FOR HIS GIRLFRIENNNNNN

THIS IS SO EXCITING GUYS WANTED TO LET YOU KNOW

I should probably stop with the all caps.

We are doing Vatche U113 in rose gold (probably?) and a 1.1ish carat diamond of some color and clarity. We are talking about it with Matt.

I was this excited when my son in law was buying Ashleigh's' engagement ring! It's an exciting time! :appl:

Lovely news! I thoroughly approve of the Vatche U113 in any colour metal (I have small one in yellow gold, plat head) - I'm sure rose gold would be gorgeous.

It's practically like I'm buying the ring myself!

Well. I mean. I picked the setting and the place we're getting it from and have commented on many of the diamonds. And flailed with excitement throughout the phone call. We did not pick a diamond on the phone call, we are getting a video. It is very exciting. SO EXCITING. Plus his girlfriend is super awesome and they seem very happy together so them getting engaged is exciting. But also the ring. I have told them the fee for my help is posting pictures of the ring here, lol.

They both want entirely rose gold, so rose gold head, which is the main confusing thing about the diamonds. I am worried an I in RG might look too tinted? But idk! I have never seen that combo irl before so I am hesitant. But there are some lovely I diamonds in the right range and the H diamonds they have are Si2 and look to have some gnarly inclusions. But then the pictures are very magnified. So I don't know. I feel like buying colored stones is easier.

In my experience, the head will add some body color. Whether you care is another issue!

Don't do the rose gold head. I very recently read a thread where someone did it and now is having a new ring made because it refected too much pink into the diamond!

Please tell them to use platinum for the head!!!!

Happy to hear they are working with GOG for the diamond!

Yes, I would be much more inclined to do a platinum head as well. So glad you are happy for your brother and new sister-in-law to be!

I saw an all rose gold H on eBay. I recently made a thread about it. Seemed like a great color for the metal.

Did I miss it? What shape?

Cannot wait to see this come together! Matt's pretty swell, you're in great hands.

was it between 12pm and 1pm Eastern?

I mentioned that but I think they're okay if it reflects pink? They did also look at faint and light pink diamonds but decided they'd rather hit the 1 carat mark with a white diamond than get like a half carat faint pink. I saw that thread too but iirc it was also an asscher in a bezel, which is probably a different sort of thing, really? idk it is very confusing. I think I am having mindclean issues with the I, really, is I think what I've decided is going on. I've never felt this way toward Is before. This is weird. And new. And I don't like it.

Nah, more like between 5 and 6 eastern.

I'm prepared to be picky about the diamond but I think the brotherman is ready to wrap things up. Theoretically we are getting a video. In the practice of actually buying a diamond from somewhere other than ebay, I have figured out my sweet spot is probably H Si1, of which of course none are listed on GOG's site, lol. Maybe in actual practice of buying a diamond for a non-me person who says things like "D, that means it's the best" and such.

He is also seriously considering Zales. So I'm really trying to steer him away from that for obvious reasons. And apparently if you get a GIA-graded diamond through Zales it's not eligible for buyback or trade-up? Which seems backwards of making sense. Also they were priced significantly higher than ideals and super-ideals from PS vendors so that seems doubly pointless.

I have an H RB in a Vatche 18K rose gold setting. I don't find it reflects too much but it is a smaller diamond, .51ct. The diamond is very white in the setting. I love it.

Man, if Jonathan AND Matt were on the call, that would be quite a call. Jon is a doll on the phone btw. Just sayin. That accent is awesome. I wondered if they thought I sounded like a hick or something. hahaha

How exciting for you and your brother!

Congratulations to your brother and how exciting for you to get to help out! My E-ring also came from GOG and my fiance had nothing but the best to say! I got to visit the store a few years ago to view the colors first hand. We ended up with a J color with full RG setting. I don't find the stone to be tinted at all due to the prongs. Any color is do see is beautiful reflections! I can't wait to see the finished product!

mypatience, what a lovely set. Love to hear about the great experiences with GOG. =)

If it were me, I'd go for white gold on the part that holds the stone. Just looks more seamless.

Can't wait to see pics!! :appl:

Mypatience - beautiful ring set!!

We got the video of the diamonds today, I can't tell a damned bit of difference between them except there's one that's slightly bigger. So I'm leaving it up to my brother to decide. He showed the video to his girlfriend, and she likes the slightly bigger one best. Unsurprisingly.  It's about 2k more than the lowest priced one - still within his budget but he was hoping to come in under the budget, so we'll see.

(Also I like how his girlfriend was adamant at the beginning that she have no hand in the process, yet every time I send a new email or call him, she's the one replying. lol. Perfect. She doesn't know the exact details of the setting though.)

I think this is the one he bought - http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10636/

Matt seems to think it's eyeclean, and, admittedly, the inclusion, while on the table, is really small. We figure that if the inclusion bothers us, we can return it and get one of the other diamonds we were looking at - they're all 6.6something mm. Personally I sincerely doubt it will be noticeable.

It is getting shipped to my house so his girlfriend won't see it before the proposal - verrrrry exciting!!!

IT HAS ARRIVED!

Unfortunately my brother won't be able to come over without his girlfriend until Monday, so until then it must languish in its shipping box, unopened. The temptation to look is KILLING ME.

Oh come'on, a little packing tape and it will be good as new! :Up_to_something:

Yippee!

+1.

I can't wait to hear your verdict!!! :appl:

Hey Distracts,
Good luck to your brother and future sister in law
I looked at the pics from the GOG site that you supplied the link.
One of the microscope pictures has a red line pointing to a cloud under the table.
I know this is magnified, is the diamond, being an SI2 eye clean?

So didya peak? :Up_to_something:

So we were FINALLY able to open the box and look at the ring today. *fistpump* It is SO PRETTY. My photos do it no justice - I suck at photographing diamonds. Super sparkle galore. We can spot the inclusion six inches away in sunlight but not farther away and not in any other lighting conditions without the loupe, so we decided it's eyeclean enough for our standards.

We found this packaging pretty funny... a UPS bag inside a FedEx box.
