I seldom think of any of my jewelry purchases as “heirloom” items to be passed through the generations, but my latest Burmese jadeite earrings could qualify as one I think. When I first tried it on, I thought:
- wow I aged 5 years (usually not a good sign for any potential purchase haha)
- I can wear this even when I’m 80 yo
- Ouch it’s super painful (due to the original omega backs)
- It wouldn’t be out of place in a Crazy Rich Asians movie

But of course, I was already smitten by the luscious greenness. I mean, just look at it under the sun…

Here’s my jeweler’s pic from IG (that made me rush down to the store the next day) and some snaps from when I was considering it at the store:

Jeweler pic:

In store and outside while considering:
AD474402-9502-455E-9FA9-98ED16213B1A.jpeg 1352DEDF-B8AB-4BEF-BBB1-5B0537E3B938.jpeg 56E160D0-F5EB-47CB-B756-466901C3F8AE.jpeg

I was already supposed to be on a bling ban but I really couldn’t resist the color which my local lab certified as “green” (duh! I know that even without certification!). My jeweler thinks it could be 艳绿 but regardless of the name of the color it’s a shade of green that I love as you can tell from my collection of various smaller earrings, ring jadeite cabs and bracelets (not pictured) with similar color that I’d brought along as reference for shopping…

Anyway so he advised that the painful omega backs can be modified to be usual studs (but with large backings so that it won’t sag) by removing the omega back and extending the stud part. After mulling for quite a while in the store, clearly I made the decision that it had to be mine cos here it is!

With fake LEGO flower since I don’t have fresh ones haha:

In shaded light:

It’s definitely way more elaborate than my usual earrings and I don’t usually attend fancy events (not that it’s possible during the pandemic anyway) but I shall do my best to find a way to make wearing it on a regular basis work!

Thanks for reading!

Beautiful green! I want to know if it does take a crazy rich Asian to afford such lucious green jadite earrings?

Any chance of ear shots? They're lovely. Love the LEGO flowers.

I second the ear shots! What a luscious green.

Oh! Forgot to post earshots! Had posted these earlier in the CS forum.

Natural light, studs form:

Store light, omega backs:
849890

Didn’t manage to take a decent one from further away

Thanks @JulieN @maryjane04 @foxinsox!

I’m not a crazy rich Asian so I think no need to be one? It’s a 4 figure sum, not 5 figure.

Haha, now you know I’m a crazy nosy Asian…..no one other than a crazy nosy Asian would ask such a question. But I was curious because I have ever purchased Jadite before!

I would probably go with 翠綠 if not 帝王綠; I understand it didn’t score Nanyang “Vivid green” but may score HKJSL “intense green” or AIGS “Royal green”. If you got it for less than U$10K as you say, I’d say it’s a bargain!!

That’s normal in my part of the world. Usually it’s like “erm you mind telling me how much it cost?” and maybe “… ballpark is also fine”. Haha. I should have qualified that I’m not a crazy rich Asian (though I am Asian).

Delicious! They look amazing!

Can I ask what an Omega back is & why it hurts?

This pic shows:
63B59A7D-458A-4277-848E-B9F16C37413F.png

From: https://www.1000earring.com/blogs/earrings/different-types-of-earrings

From what I read, you can loosen the lever so that it doesn’t clip so tightly but since my jeweler offered to change the backing I was like ok.

I don’t think it’s imperial. My jeweler did say it may get 艳绿 from HKJSL - maybe will try when travel goes back to normal. Apparently Nanyang is extremely conservative about giving Vivid since a few years ago.

My jeweler gave a “friendship” discount. Very grateful.

Thank you @mrs-b @Catmom @gregchang35 @Rhd3 @Cerulean @Efleon @Daisys and Diamonds!!

@Efleon
They are amazing but not my type of lifestyle you know what I mean? I can imagine them going well with a cheongsam or if I’m all dolled up and going for high tea or dinner or something. Not my going to office attire (which frankly is now mostly jeans since my company has adopted a casual dress code) or weekend mum “uniform”.

But I will still try to swing them to wear to work else they will never get worn. I shall try better ear shots when that happens! @mrs-b

@Daisys and Diamonds The jadeite color names baffles me too. So you are not alone! I just know it as a shade of green that I love and find irresistable.

Whoa. This whole suite.
Totally Crazy Rich Asians!!!!
Including the "this isn't super comfy but I will wear it anyway" resolve!!

If I ever want green jadeite - I have SO many of your and @Burmesedaze's photos saved. And just dropped another four into that folder. And I plan to tell whoever I might buy from one day "I want this, exactly this" o_O :cool2:

they just look so luscious
do you have lollies (candy) called jubes ?
like a sweet soft fruit jelly rolled in sugar
when you bite into them they look just like this jade !

i think they would pair beautifully with a really beautiful @yssie chosen pearl necklase

So neat-o! I don’t know what styles are like where you live but I would totally wear those with jeans and a blouse.

Gosh so formal looking with pearls… I’m gonna try with the tennis necklace though. Didn’t quite go with the Tahitians that I have. My t strands tends to lean casual but maybe a nice round and big peacock strand can match.

Gosh they're all amazing but if I have to choose I pick choice #1 and I asked Greg and he prefers choice #2.

Thanks @missy ! I’m partial to #1 myself - would be my choice for a formal dinner but think maybe I can swing #3 for work.

Oh yes, some of his stuff goes so fast you cannot imagine. That said I think jadeite is an acquired taste.
