Just for kicks, I'm interested in hearing from those who have made MRB/OEC (inc AVRs) switch up

For those who went MRB > OEC - is there anything you miss about your MRB?

I kept my MRB earrings and I'll probably never part with them. I have a couple of necklaces that have MRB but they aren't MRB!!!

I sold my MRB e-ring after my divorce and splurged on some antique goodness. If I were to pick out another e-ring I'd go for an AVR all day long!

I think having a little bit of both is a good compromise.

+1

I have some OECs from my grandmother/family that I really love, and a stunning MRB from my mother's e-ring. I enjoy both, but I feel like a MRB is completely replaceable.
(Incidentally, I chose an AVC for myself. I was too impatient to seek out a true antique cushion and I doubt I'll ever be acquisitive enough to buy another large diamond.)

Absolutely! I have a MRB, a true antique OEC, and an AVC. I truly enjoy the look of the larger facets of the OEC and AVC more so than the MRB; I love the MRB but in a different way. It is definitely more splintery and less fiery than the older style larger faceted cuts. I don't know that I'd ever give up my MRB, just because I think I'd miss it if it were gone (and I think the SBF fluor is cool...). But I'd sure love an AVR! I could look at those old style cuts all day... love the colors they throw off. :)

Interesting because my SBF is the thing that I really will miss from my MRB!!! I have ACA earrings and I think they are perfect for studs because they are sooo bright and I plan to always keep them! But have had a few AVR's here and finally the one I think I will keep, and I know without any doubt that I love it the most for a ring! (Although I'd like to have an AVC, too!)

Interesting. I have an AVR and an AVC. The AVC I would never dream of changing. Whilst I enjoy the AVR, the AVC certainly displays more fire than the AVR - the AVC reflecting more pastels and colours, but this may be due to the size difference.

I guess what I'm trying to work out is whether I need to go larger in the AVR to get the firey flash, as my AVR really lacks this in comparison to my AVC, or whether this will still be lacking in an AVR. In which case, maybe I should just save the premium on the AVR and by a bigger MRB?

I know they are different, but it's a toss up between larger MRB or smaller AVR!

Well, that has been my exact dilemma going from a 1.5 ct stone to a larger one! Do I go for the ideal cut round that is a little cheaper or go for an AVR??? But I decided on the AVR because it is exceptionally beautiful and far more rare than an ideal cut round. And bottom, line, I just enjoy looking at it!!! Naturally your larger AVC is going to act differently than a smaller AVR. If you had an AVR the same weight as your AVC, you'd see a big difference! But I think you have the perfect combination other than you may want to eventually upgrade to a larger AVR. I LOVE my 2 ct one! The 1.8 I AVR he has is gorgeous, too!!! And he has several J's close to and over 2 cts as well.

And I wish you'd post some more pics of your 2.5 ct AVC in that gorgeous setting!!!!

It's nice to see I'm not the only one struggling with this type of decision. Although any future upgrade will be a way off yet, it's still nice to talk about it!

As far as the AVC goes, I'M STILL WAITING! My birthday is still not for a few months yet, so hubby is making me wait! Isn't he awful  Although I do sneak a peak every now and then! I've never wanted a birthday to come around so quick before in my life

I'm resurrecting this thread to see what you all would do.

Here is the dilemma - they are both around the same price but the MRB is so much bigger and higher in colour:

MRB 2.37 I SI1 http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10495/
AVR 2 K VS2 http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/10024/

I think you should start a new thread for your question if you want responses as many won't realised that you posted a question. Back to your question, I will pick the AVR as the MRB you posted is not a H&A, so I would be concerned about its performance.

I like the 2.4 I MRB and the AVR. The size of that AVR is nothing to sneeze at! Any way you could get both and look at them side by side? Or at least ask if Jon can shoot a video (if you are at that stage yet...).
