Hmm- just wondering- I have the mental capacity of a fruit fly right now at work...so it''s easier to post than actually figure it out...hehehehehe

You know people are going to write "it depends"

Given equal depth, tables, girdle, etc., that'd be interesting to learn!

I mean assuming they have the both diameter! Like where a princess and round have the same diameter, the princess has more surface area!!

oops...I mean assuming they have the same diameter...Fruit fly I tell ya.

A Jubilee would have more face up surface area if they both had the same diameter.

Same diameter and everything, jubilee (because of the corners). But, considering the same diameter alone, I wonder which one would have more carats (we know the jubilee faces up bigger than a princess). In other words, which is the bigger bang for the buck?

this is what led me to ask the question...I thought it would be the jubilee...but look at the picture...doesn't the round look smaller? I still LOVE the jubilee...just wondering...

I mean doesn't the round look bigger. UGH.

I think MMM needs to take a nap. Nappy nap time for MMM.

ME NEED SLEEPY

I think if they were both the same diameter the Jubilee would have a higher carat weight than a round.

If they were both the same carat weight I'm not sure which would have a larger surface area. The round would have a larger diameter.

It's been too long since my last calculas class for me to remember how to do the calculations.

I don't have any answers to the math questions... just wanted to second the motion that you get a little rest tonight!

Too funny! At least you re-read your posts. I never do, so my mistakes are always caught by other people who seem to ask why I'm such an idiot--oh, well!

The one thing you want to keep in mind with all of this is you're not being told information such as girdle thickness, depth, etc. which can all change the way the stones appear. For instance, a well-cut princess at .43 carats should have an average of 4.23mm, not the 3.93 that's the example stone on that advertising page. Although the jubilee is still bigger (4.52mm) the difference is not so great (especially considering we don't know the depth on the jubilee--it may be more shallow than others). But I'm on a tangent, huh? Sorry--gotta stick up for princesses!

As for the round, it is interesting to see that the jubilee looks more like a round that was cut across the top, bottom, and corners, rather than a princess with cut corners. My guess now is the jubilee and round will look about the same in person, but that it really depends on the setting (prongs especially).

If you take a round diamond and grind 4 flat spots on the girdle you get close to a Jubilee, so the round has a bigger surface area in square mm's/mass.

that's how it looks in the picture...thanks Gary! Still love it though...

oh get lost researcher...you're always very helpful and insightful!

Does this really matter, MMM? You know you're getting a jubilee as soon as they get your dream stone in! I'm dying to have one as well, but I'm very happy with my princess for now

So is it quitting time for you yet? You work too hard!

YOU think I'm helpful and insightful because you're sleep deprived. Others might just disagree with you....

And researcher...that's what I was thinking...if you take a well cut princess and one that's got a good depth...and compare it to a jubilee...and some of them are on the deeper side, well, then, b/c of the pointed corners, the difference isn't going to be so huge...But then again, a princess ain't showin no hearts and arrows!!!!! Jonathan told me that the jubilee will still look bigger though...if he has time, he's going to send me over a picture...

nope...am 99% certain I'm sticking with a princess!

YOUR princess is a perfect example dahling, ...there ARE squares out there with triple Very Highs!!!

A princess for now, a jubilee in a year?
3.gif
That's what I'm hoping for but bet it will be more like 2-3 years before I'm in the market for another big ring! Right now I have to convice my boy that I REALLY need the 5-stone 1-1.25 ct shared prong wedding band!

I work too hard? that's FUNNY. I'm lucky they don't can my a** for being on the internet all day...
Hmmm- lemme think- doing a report looking at funeral and adminsitration expenses on an accounting report OR looking at sparklies....Hmmm, tough call...LOL

You'll have to pass along/post those photos of the jubilee next to the princesses! I'd love to see a pic with stones of the same depth etc. I realize the jubs will look a little bigger, but I just don't think it can be that much when you get an ideal princess....

of course you need that band. It's a no brainer....
naughty.gif
DO IT NOW...b/c after you get married, you ain't getting squat...LOL...kidding

That's great, MMM! LOL It's funny, but as a consultant we learn all these crazy facts about the number of hours a typical person actually spends working while at work, and these days it tends to be about 5 hours even though people are at the office longer. Think the internet has anything to do with it?

My boy is already trying to cut me off, but I'll be bringing home more money once I start working again, so he really can't say much

Seriously though, I am pushing for my wedding band (I tell him the alternative is to buy me a 2-3 ct jubilee for my right and a simple platinum band for the wedding). So, my dream wedding band it is!

5 hours of work? oops, I'm slacking....And yes, it's all because of the DEVIL NET!!!

Ok here is a simulation comparing round to Jub of equal weight and similar pavillion angle. Both diamond theoretical 0.65cts

And Seinfeld I'm guessing....
