A number of alternative news outlets are reporting that 11 commercial airliners went "missing" from the Tripoli airport after ISIS took over that airport in August. Of course the reports are also raising the specter of 9/11. Although these reports first surfaced late yesterday, I haven't seen it reported in mainstream news outlets yet, at least not on on-line outlets. Which leads me to wonder...
- Are all the reports coming from a single source, and if so, is that source not considered credible by the mainstream media?
- are the major news outlets spending more time verifying the story, or
- are the mainstream outlets going to be caught flat-footed by these alternative sites?
- The alternative sites generally tend to play up the drama in a story while, generally, the mainstream media tend to favor the "more balanced" approach. I this what's going on here, and how will it play out?
And yes, "intellectualizing" it is one way of coping with fear.
Thoughts, anyone?
