For those of you as obsessed with metal color as I am: this one's for you!!!

It was VERY liberating stacking all these different colors together! The biggest surprise of all was how much I loved the mix and match. I had always thought I would NOT like RG and YG together...I know it's kind of a faux pas, but I LOVE them all together. I do think part of the key is to keep all the bands thin. The RG really softens all the YG imo. The 18k RG was a perfect cross between the yellowness of 14k YG and the pinkness of 14k RG. I liked them with very little WG though, just a touch...for some reason the big WG E-ring broke up the romance and looked stark, but the little touch in the rolling ring was perfect. I know mixing all these metals is not for everyone, but it is for me!!! I feel like I can choose an e-ring and stackers now with new freedom.

The rings were from different vendors and of course the alloys are different, but you get the idea.

I feel like metal color (probably like diamond size) is very illusive and the more pictures we have comparing the better. I tried to capture them in different lighting. Yes, the salesperson thought I was nuts. Oh well! :naughty:

That is very helpful! I haven't really tried on the two colors of rg on my own skin, so I can't exactly say what I like on me the best. But I think I like the pink gold (14k) with white metal the most, and I like the 18k rg on it's own. I like yg, too, but I think it is not good with my coloring. They all look good on you!

Thanks DS! I had a lot of fun doing it.

I would say the 18k RG was a total chameleon, looking close to YG at times and rosier at times. A couple of times I swore it was YG. BTW, I had the same experience in NY when I tried on some RG Singlestone pieces. Whatever alloy they use has that "is it YG or is it RG quality." I liked the 14k RG the best in general....it's just so pretty and soft and feminine.

Yes, I can see how close 18k rg is to yg. And the 14k is more obviously pink. Definitely makes me want some rg!!

Yep, me too! I've got plans. :Up_to_something:

BTW, should this be in SMTB? I wasn't sure where to put it.

I really like your rings. This topic intrigues me. I know what I like when I see it, but I've yet to discern what "rules of thumb" work and which don't. It's just hit or miss experimenting.

You are a mixer too!!! ;-)

I wish I could claim the rings, but unfortunately the only one I own in the bunch is the etsy yellow gold twist band.

I don't necessarily think there is any rule of thumb that works for everyone. I think it depends on what kind of person you are, kwim? I like pushing the envelope a little. :Up_to_something: :naughty: Yes, I get off on bucking jewelry trends. I'm so dangerous, huh?

One thing that did help was when the bands were very thin. I think all the colors kind of blur then which is nice.

Anyway, happy mixing!

Great pictures, valmanin! I agree, I think 18k rg looks beautiful with 18k yg, at least based off of my experience with my trinity. The yg and rg almost blend together, they compliment each other nicely.

 I am longing for a trinity now after trying that one on. Of course it wasn't Cartier, but I got the itch!
