I found a tungsten ring that I fell in love with. He likes it too. I read that tungsten is even stronger than titanium. Is that true?

I didn''t see his ring???

So sorry!

I don''t know what I was thinking. lol. It''s a Trew Tungsten ring and Here it is:

LM,
Okay, so after 19+ years of marriage, my husband has 4 wedding rings. Yes, 4.

From left to right:

1. original 2-tone 14K gold - white still look white, never been polished or replated.
2. plain 14K yellow gold - got this right after wedding so he could knock-around in it and not mess up the "real" ring
3. 14K yellow gold with diamonds - anniversary gift many years down the road
4. titanium and 14K accent - recent anniversary because he thought it was cool
9.gif

I will say that the titanium is the one he wears the most these days unless we are going out somewhere nice. It does not scratch easily, and the few scratches it does get can be nearly buffed out with a fine scotch-brite pad.

That''s really pretty!

And the titanium ring was under $100.[$$)]

Wow, your husband is a lucky man with 4 rings!
Thanks, I will have to look at the titanium in person because I don''t want is ring to look like steel.

My husband wears titanium band from Boone Rings too - but it has a gold inlay.

Titanium can be cut. Tungsten is the one that people worry about. And it can be taken off in case of emergency - the band is "cracked" not cut.

There was some ridiculous scare about this.. and lots of people propogated it. I have seen the "tunsgten removal procedures" several times on the internet - and apparently it''s not an issue any longer in emergency rooms etc.

So I hear.

Those who have titanium and tungsten band did you get it for the durability, cost, and less scatches vs platinum?
neither

I got it because it was the only design I could find that I liked :p I would have liked platinum to begin with to match my fiancee''s ring.. but now that I have the titanium I love it..

Here is a Boone ring that I wear as an everyday ring (since Jan) and there are barely any scratches etc, though I tend to take it off when working with my hands. It has a dual finish which might help you imagine the color that Ti can take on. Hope this helps.

I didn''t know that so many people had Titanium. I will look into it.

This is the titanium ring that I wear. I bought it because it was lighter than gold or platinum, it cost less, and I liked the look of it.

Here's a link to Boone Rings FAQ web page.

My husband loves the two-tone look, platinum and 18 kt yellow gold. He loves that he can wear any type of jewelry (i.e watches lol) with it.

I let FI choose his own because he hates "man jewelry." He decided on titanium because it is lightweight (and inexpensive).

What are we looking at in terms of price?

White Gold is obviously the least expensive, but how do platinum, titanium, and tungsten compare in terms of cost? I imagine all these rings are in the 1k-2k price range assuming no special art carvings or stones.

Thank goodness they aren''t that expensive! I''m looking to pay up to $750.00. Decision decision decision! I never knew a man''s wedding band would be so complicated.

My husband has 2 bands: a 14kt gold yellow 4 mm band and a 6 mm wide titanium band. He bought the titanium one a couple of months ago because his "everyday" watch is titanium and loved the lightweight feel of it. He also got a nicer silver watch last christmas and the gold band didn''t look right with it.

He likes both bands but looooves the titanium one. He says he gets lots of compliments on it from guys!

My ring, pictured in a previous post, cost $95.00.

Great price!

For my ring 6-7mm width, 10.75 size, a titanium ring could be had for $600, an all platinum $1800-2000, my ring which is mostly Tungsten with a platinum inlay was about $1300. My ring is the one like the picture of aphisiglovessae's.

I was worried about scratches and wear. I really like the two tone look in men’s rings. My first wedding band was gold/platinum, and got a lot of scratches and got junk in the groves. I thought about an all brushed platinum ring, since scratches are easy to hid by using steel wool, but I like some shine in my ring.

Titanium although tough, can and will show scratch. Tungsten apparently will not ever scractch (maybe micro), and stay shinny new forever. Also no groves or anything in my ring to trap dirt or junk. The brushed platibnum inlay can be buffed out every now and then with some steel wool.

P.S. - aphisiglovessae - I seem to remember a picture and story of you (?) holding a rescued baby squirrel in your hand - that was great.

Do you have pictures of the ring on your finger?
The more I read the more indecisive I get!

I have a RADO watch that is made of tungsten, and it''s scratch resistant. It''s great, and after reading this thread, I''m 95% sure I''ll be getting a tungsten wedding band when I get married...I hope SHE doesn''t complain about it not matching her e-ring (19K gold).

A quick pic - a hairy knuckle shot!
The ring looks yellowish in the picture - in real life it is very silver/platinum - like trew web site and photos posted.

Thanks for the pix!!!

From what I''ve seen Platinum ranges from about 5 to 600 to about 1000 dollars for a plain men''s band depending on the width. I don''t know what they go for if they have a design.

As for Titanium and Tungsten, I researched some prices and they range from 100 dollars to 500 dollars. They cheapest being the plain ones. They''re about the same though in price.

I could be off a little on the prices, so don''t quote me on those. Any experts please chime in and correct me if necessary.

we chose the tiffany lucida platinum band for my fiance. he insisted on a plain white metal band with no engraving and no diamonds. i loved the look of the tungsten bands and how they were scratch resistant but fiance declined.
"Plain platinum band no diamonds no engraving" is all he said. ok. we put rings as our number one wedding budget item and he insisted on getting something "name brand" since he got me the tacori set, so he got the tiffany. i like it too. He's a 10.25 and its the 6mm band, cost $1175+tax. when we first started looking it was $1K but he procrastinated and then the price went up.

FWIU re: Tungsten Rings:

If the ring cannot be easily removed first try a heavy petroleum lubricant such as petroleum jelly (Vaseline ™) and, using a cloth to grasp the ring, try rocking it off the finger. Destructive removal of the ring can be achieved with a set of locking pliers like Vicegrips ™

The procedure would be to place the jaws of the pliers over the ring and tighten the pliers until finger tight. Remove them from the ring. Adjust the jaws tighter by about 1/3 of a turn. Clamp the pliers on to the ring again. Repeat until a cracking sound is heard. Then clamp the pliers onto the ring in different positions until it breaks away. Once started be careful no to move or rotate the ring as cuts or lacerations could occur. If the ring is banded with gold or other material it can be cut away after the tungsten has broken off.

Before actually trying this consult with a professional. This opinion is not warranted for accuracy, fitness, merchantability, or anything else a lawyer might think-up. Always wear safety glasses. Do not ingest, take with tranquilizers, or apply before exposure to sun.

P.S. Titanium is pretty easy to cut. I work for a company that builds aircraft parts amongst other things and cuts titanium every day.

Hi there,I''m so tickled that I may be of assistance to someone instead of the other way around! Anywho....I am debating on what to get my boyfriend for a wedding band.
He loves the titanium ring I got him a couple of years ago, it has a brushed finish but has started to scratch up anyways. He doesn''t even wear it to work and it''s finish is still hurtin'', and now it''s hard to find a jewler that will re-brush the surface as it is such a hard metal.
However I found a jeweler that makes rings from GREY GOLD. I''m not sure what he puts into the gold to make it that color but it has the look of titanium and the versitilty of gold! Perfect!
Hope this helps

For your brushed finish titanium ring, if scratches are deep, you could buff it with some fine sandpaper like 320 grit. I wet sand with WD-40. A ScotchBrite pad can blend it out to as new looking from there. Just buff in the grain direction.

I'd be happy to refinish the ring at no cost even if I didn't make it. Just send it to me and send a few bucks for return shipping.
