I didn''t want to steal littlemissindecisive''s thread but I have the same question about melee size, only my center stone is a 1.5 carat. I want the stone to "pop" but not to look ackward. Any suggestions?

so I gathered you got teh 1.5 I?

do you have any picture of settings your thinking about? it depends on the setting I think jmho...

No, but thanks for remembering my other thread. I just know it will be somewhere around that size. I like the same type of setting littlemissindecisive (what a great name - I wish I would have thought of it first) likes - the Aramis or something similar.

Shelleydog-try this thread--it really helped mewith the size chart comparsion--especially the one on the hand

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/diamond-size-comparison.83517/

I am really wanting to stay with 2 pointers to .025 at the largest if at all possible for my under .8 to 1ct stone...WF says this is impossible in the aramis setting I want and the band width to be greater or [email protected] I keep discussing it and sending my rep pics to see if we are having a communication problem seeing I''ve seen rings on here with these similar specs...

IMO-for your 1.5 stone-I''d go with .025 to .03--afterall its just an accent to that awesome stone

I do remember a few post I have reviewed when in lurker mode that a person had a 1.29 and wished she had gotten 2 pointers instead of 3 pointers-just fyi

Good luck--do you still like the whiteflash petite setting? I responded to your other post bc I too wanted to see more pics of that and couldn''t find any!

Juli (who is an incredible sales consultant) at Whiteflash looked forever for pictures of the petite setting but I think it''s too new so they didn''t have any. I''ve decided against the petite setting. I think I like the band to be the same width all the way around the ring instead of being higher around the stone. I tried on one in a B&M store that was 1.5 carat with 2 pointers in the band and the sales rep thought it was out of balance (I was leaning toward 2 pointers before that). Of course, he may not have known what he was talking about. I like this setting also:

hmmm, then I"m voting in between a 2 and 3 pointer for the look for your stone.... have you tried on them in a shop?

oh-I like it-I like it!!!

I have been back and forth also on 4 prong vs, 6 prong and this is a great example of a beautiful 6 prong...hmm more to ponder.

I have been talking with a Sheerah at Whiteflash and unfortunately we have played phone tag today, but she says I would have to use atleast 3 pointers to make a band greater than 2mm in the aramis setting???

I hope some others respond on your question:

How big of melee for a 1.5 stone guys???

It''s possible Sheerah just hasn''t understood what you are talking about. Once she sees your pictures, she will be able to find that ring and give you the specifics. Juli has been very good at doing that for me.

I talked with Whiteflash at length later in day and got the scoop shelleydog- incase this helps you out too...

How thick do you want your band? bc this is important in regards to melee size.

Star Sparkles band is @1.9mm and used .025 stones per Whiteflash just an fyi...

I really wanted my band to be around 2.2mm-2.3mm and to do this in the aramis setting it will take .035 stones or you''ll have a lot of plain metal around the stones and lose that look of the aramis setting.

The other option is .03 melee to make the band @a 2.1ish-2.2mm

Keep me posted and let''s try to enjoy the hunt!

.03 might be the size then. I wonder if that''s true also for the setting I posted a link to earlier. It looks like the Aramis only with u-prongs.

Did you have any specs for that setting? I didn''t see any when I looked thru quick...I just noticed that gorgeous head

I think .03 would look killer with a 1.5 stone and a band of 2.1-2.2mm...

I was thinking of @.8 to 1ct, but if I have to do the .03 to get a band greater than 2mm then I may lean closer to 1ct if feasible...

I think the center stone was 2.18 carat and 2.5 pointers in the band.

Sorry ShelleyDog-you were trying not to steal my thread and I cornered yours!!!
I was just so excited to have someone else with the same questions!!!

The stones did look big in that band-thats why I wondered-so these are .025??? wow-i don''t know if I''ll like the 3 pointers then for my under 1ct stone

yikes-It''s actually my 10 yr annv today which is what this upgrade is for-but these things just take time.
I''m hoping to go to BBB and some other stores this weekend to just try some more stuff on for enlightenment.

Sheerah is doing my quote today sometime w/ the aramis setting, .03 melee-band to make the band @2.1-2.2mm band
I''ll
post it in here if you want it for reference?

I have a center stone of 1.5 too and the melee on the band (goes only half way, coz the bottom tends to get dinged) totals out to .29 carats on a 2mm band. I find that that showcases the center stone while adding some more bling :)

Daisi2112 - How many total stones are in the band?

Littlemissindecisive - I don''t mind at all! I am also excited to have someone trying to figure out the same thing I am.

I''d love for you to post your quote for reference. Thanks!

Daisi2112 - How many total stones are in the band?

I have sixteen melee diamonds on my band (totals to 0.29 carats) with my center being a 1.51 and the band is 2mm and I find it works well.

Those are just under 2 pointers. What does your band look like - have any pictures you care to share?

Another question - what color is your center stone and the melee? Are they the same?

My center stone is an ''E'', and the melee stones are ''G/H'' (no one that I have shown the ring to can see the the color difference). I apologize for the picture being a bit blurry and dull, I have a lot of trouble photographing the ring and getting it to focus in the light.

That''s beautiful! Yeah, that concerns me about the sides being different in color from the center. It''s good to hear you can''t even tell.

Hi Shelleydog :) I have a 1.72 I color cushion with F/G VS? melee (to be confirmed with the appraiser on Monday) and I LOVE it! My 1.7 cushion is probably around the same size as your 1.5 RB. Here's the link to take a look: VGirls Dream Ring I did notice a slight color difference when I first got it but I think that's just because I KNEW there was a difference. I actually think melee will always look brighter anyway because of their size and the super sparkliness of them. No one else would ever notice this but you because you know it's there. The melee and center stone have two completeley different looks (as seen in the perspective photo on my thread) because of the size difference so I do not mind that they are so far apart in color. No one ever notices and it's too blinding in person to see any color anyway!

Here are the melee specs (hope they help):

20 x .008c (1.2mm) melee in halo
12 x .008c (1.2mm) melee in trusses
27 x .025c (1.8mm) melee in band
band is 2mm wide (which I LOVE)
8 1/2 mm tall (from finger to table height)
2 x 1.8 or 2mm (not sure on this one?) pink sapphires

vgirl-gorgeous ring and excellent work-looks like you hit the books
34.gif
and did your research!!!

ShelleyDog-I was out most of the day yesterday and came home to hopefully see an email quote; alas no
7.gif

I did bump into my local jewerly store
2.gif
where I first tried on the an A. Jaffe signature set to show a girlfriend and it has .20 melee with 10 stones(5 on each side) exactly 2 pointers and I was amazed just how small they really are!!! The band per Pearlman''s website is said 2b 2.2mm but with the 2 pointers which I now know measures 1.7mm there''s no way not much metal at all on near the stones or sides-it felt super skinny-I''m guessing 2mm max.
Just an fyi-these .025 and .03''s might be nice for us...

vgirl - That ring is gorgeous! Thanks so much for the measurements. I guess the melee does look different even if they are the same color because of the way they sparkle.

littlemissindecisive - I''m sorry you didn''t get your quote yet. I have also tried on rings and thought bands with .02 stones looked very thin. I''m leaning towards .03.

Thanks girls! :) Yes, we did A LOT of homework before finally deciding on melee size. I am VERY HAPPY with the 2.5 pointers in my band. I loved the 3 pointers too but didn''t want my halo melee to be too different in size from the band melee.

ok-shelleydog-hope you see this-
I finally got my whiteflash quote with .03 melee yesterday-boy Sheerah has been so patient to work thru this sidestone issue with me. I am considering the .03 or the .035 and really just want to make time and go see these in person--I''ve looked at enough charts-I think I just need to see the real thing before I take the next step. I''m way to picky for my own good!

Here is the quote

SO my question to you is how many sidestones do you think? Star Sparkle''s aramis had 7 to total 14 on her diamond setting, the jaffe one I tried on had 5 per side to total 10 and this whiteflash quote has 8 to total 16.
My melee would also be bigger than Star-sparkles she used .025 melee. In my mind I''m thinking 6 per side to total 12 but I don''t want to shortchange myself...This would probably be a little change in the quote

opinions???

Littlemissindecisive - What did you end up doing for your melee? I have yet to decide.

my stone is 1.77 and I have 3 pointers down the shank. Stone still pops

I like a band width between 2mm and 3mm
so based on that use the size melee that work with the design you want.
Personally I like the channel look so would likely go with diamonds smaller than the band is wide to have some metal around them.
