Mastercut gems spring sale

I keep telling myself I don’t need any more CS, but these two stones were calling out to me .

The zircon is loaded with rainbow sparks and is interesting and shifty in color going from light blue to greenish blue to steely grayish blue and I even caught it looking yellow once! The chrysoberyl is super bright and lemony .

Wow, gorgeous chrysoberyl! I love the colors of your stones, although I'm concerned about the depth of that zircon for setting. Any plans to set either gem soon?

Thanks @voce ! I have a couple of other stones I should set first, so don’t have plans to set either of these stones soon. You are right about the zircon being a deep stone, but I might set it as a pendant, or in a ring setting with a detailed profile like this one from jewelryhoo2 since the depth will alllow lots of room for the profile design

My mastercut box of goodies arrived today! It's night time here so no sunlight pics until tomorrow, but here are some pics in kitchen lighting. Sadly the tourmaline looks horrific on my skin tone. It's a super cool blend of yellow/pink that ends up looking like pink champagne, but lighter. Sadly it just kind of disappears on my skin, so it's being returned. But someone else will get a great deal! Here's pics of it:


Now onto the zircons! What do people think? The 2.11 is the smallest orange one, 2.95 is the middle sized yellow, and the biggest is 4+ orange/brown/yellow.

I like the smallest orangey one the best against your skin colourwise.

Bummer about the tourmaline

I’m with arkieb1 - the 2.11 looks the best in hand. I like the color on the 2.95, it just doesnt have the pop of the smaller one against your skin.

I like the color of the 2.95 the best with the 2.11 being a close second. It would come down to whether I wanted more of a yellow or orange stone

I have two large bi-color tourmalines from Dana that I have the same issue with. Gorgeous but not compatible with my skin tone. I love the Zircons with your skin tone though. Very nice.

Eek it's insane how different things look in daylight! Now I'm even more confused.

Biggest surprise is the tourmaline. It looks so different in natural light. It's the bigger one in these pics.



It's funny,, bc yesterday when I picked up the package from the post office (and could only look at each stone for like 5 seconds), I said "holy sh*t" outloud when I saw the tourmaline bc it was so pretty. But when I saw it last night I was like "wtf was I thinking???" But now that I see it in natural light I remember why I said that! But I still don't know if it looks stupid on my skin or washes out.

Here are the other zircons in natural light. to be honest I'm not loving the 2 smaller ones as I keep looking at them. Not to say they aren't great and dispersive, but just not really the colors I want. They have more yellow than I like and less brown, so I think both of the smaller ones are definitely going back.

The biggest one is by far my favorite. I really love the color.

The orange and yellow smaller ones just don't *pop* for me, but I think someone else will love them bc they sparkle a ton

I'm going to set it in a ring with a halo (because #sizewhore and halo lover). Not entirely sure what color of metal I'll use though. For a brown stone like the zircon I was planning on rose gold with a white stone halo to show the contrast. But with the tourmaline I am not entirely sure what metal would work best.

A halo would definitely help separate the gem from your skin tone. I think it could be quite beautiful.

The white zircon melee are gorgeous. I’m
Very very happy with them. I think they will do well as sidestones for a gemstone brooch or perhaps even as sidestones for my aqua. I’ll have to play around a bit.

Who knew melee could make me so happy!?!!

In the daylight, it looks a lot nicer. Can you take it to a store and put it next to a rose gold setting on your hand and see how it looks? I think a diamond halo may bring out the pink tone more possibly? Or maybe a pink sapphire halo would make it pop.

Haha I wish! Sadly I can't do that. But after thinking more today, the only one I'm thinking about is the big zircon, so I think that tells me my answer. I know it's probably no one else's preferred color, but I just love it and the idea of sending it back makes me sad

The zircon would have been my top pick too because I love the double refraction of zircon. I decide to keep stones the same way, if I feel like I will miss it if I send it back, then I keep it .

The sleepy bubblegum pink Mahenge spinel came in the other day. It's cute but just a little too sleepy/silky for me, so unfortunately I will be sending it back. Here's a few pictures I took that show the color fairly well

Just realized why I got so attached to the zircon oval. It's a very similar color to my 6 month old puppy's coat. And she (horribly) won't live very long, which is a tragedy bc she's the best dog we've ever had. See sad thread in Hangouts for more info. But I had fun this morning tryijg to get pics without her eating the stone
