My engagement ring does not say "14K" (white gold) on the inside. I have heard from a knowledgeable friend that it is the law for it to be noted on the inside of the band. Is this true???

Sometimes it just simply gets forgotten. The process is very high tech - a steel punch about 3 inches long gets wacked with a hammer.
Ask the jeweler, they will probably do it while you wait if they have a workshop.

I agree with Dave's interpetation of the law.Weird twist, huh?

It is law in the USA that IF an item is karat stamped for fineness of the metal, ie:14K, that it also be stamped with a Registered Trademark of the maker. I thin Hawaii REQUIRES a karat stamp and trademark in all items, but they are unique. If it is not karat stamped it need not be trademarked. However, the liability for the fineness of the metal then rests with the seller.
