Who Mara...

Hehe F&I ...I have two favorite jean jackets...I wear them all summer long!
1.gif
I am wearing one right now!

The grout is 'antique white' so we could probably bleach, but our house guy didn't really recommend trying the bleach thing since who knows what may happen to the file (though that was recommended by a friend)...they gave us extra grout so we may try to scrape out most of what is there in those lines and then regrout 3-4 lines. We'll see!

Nic...right now not a whole lot hangs on the walls. For me, wall stuff goes up last. That way, minimal holes are made (which is the part that Greg likes!!). But to me it's not 100% lived in until there's stuff on the walls.

There are some wall hangings in various rooms which were not displayed in these pictures (office has a huge Mackenzie Thorpe picture; stairwell has 3 large black wood Pottery Barn multi-picture collages staggered along it; entry wall has a PB 9 picture huge mahogany frame), but most of the walls are bare...while I figure out what 'final' decor is going where and also what I want to have on the walls. I don't just want to put things up 'just because'. So I've got all the wall art in a closet somewhere.
2.gif
However, I've been surfing around art.com for some ideas and have found some great things.

One of the things I think I am going to do for upstairs hallway is 3 pictures that all have the same sepia feel to them, all of bridges!
1.gif
I'll attach a picture collage I made of the separate pictures to be sure they all 'go' well enough to share the upstairs hallway.

For over the fireplace I want a huge Pottery Barn silver gilt mirror I saw ...just have to find the time to go get it and put it up etc. Also, my matron of honor has a hubby that likes to woodwork, so we asked him to make us a real mantel (we just have a built in wall fireplace); so that will be our wedding gift from them.
2.gif
In the living room, I really like how clean it looks with nothing on the wall with the big plant..so I think the fireplace mirror may be the only decor for that area.

The family room I am having a hard time with because as you can see, the walls are small and choppy. I much rather prefer large expanses of walls to cover with alot of smaller prints or one large one. So I have to figure out what I want to do in there. That may be the last room since it's the most irritating in terms of wall space.
2.gif
Plus it's pretty comfy as is right now.

The master bedroom...the wall behind the bed. I want to put up a multi-picture collage of black frames with white matte. I am thinking mostly black and white photographs, interspersed with a few color shots. Maybe some that are more neutral like buildings or similar and then some personal ones. We'll see.
2.gif
That one requires a bit more thought as well.

In the stairway hall which has a very tall ceiling (spans the height of the house), Greg bought this cool Chat Noir vintage print that we want to frame up and put on the main wall. It would fit perfectly. It's absolutely huge though, so the frame and matting etc will be very costly...so we've got to work that in too.

Figure the artwork will be a slow thing..I don't just want to buy things to slap it up. I am very particular about artwork. I don't necessarily need to spend $1k to get some original print, but if its a reprint or similar, I want it to be something unique that I haven't seen elsewhere, and have it really done up right with mattes and great frames. I love some of the more popular Monets and similar, but since EVERYONE and their sister has them in their house, Iwouldn't really want to put one of those up. I prefer more 'off the beaten path' type things...and I really love funky photography. One of my old VP's was a photographer and she had traveled to Cuba and gotten some amazing shots, my favorite was this photo of a blue door and in the middle was a red mail slot. It just read Mail. The colors in the picture were amazing and I loved the red mail slot!! I wanted to buy the print, and always meant to..just never got around to it then the company folded, etc and she and I lost touch.

Anyway there's a long art-related ramble for you!!
1.gif
I'll post a picture of the bridge pictures I am considering for our long upstairs hallway.

Here they are. I absolutely LOVE the top print of the GG Bridge.

Mara they are GREAT!!! I love Sephia photographs...My BF had a collection of perfect Ansel Adams in Black and white, some really great shots that are not as common, and I had a Scott Mutter black and white that we put in the living room. my biggest porblem is that we don't own yet, so no permanent stuff...I agree wholeheartedly, art is quite important.

We both love photographs, and I am hoping to get a REAL camera and take more black and whites as I used to...I took some pretty good pictures when traveling through many places, and they are good, but few are in B&W...
sad.gif
Creative photography is even better, but I have much to learn to get that kind of eye...

Funny, your pictures are about bridges, and I adore waterlines and shores. Bridges too...I LOVE THEM!!!

You friend would have a field day with us. We collect Turn of the Century Colored American (some British) Woodcuts & aquatints. We have ten foot ceiling that have prints nearly stacked to the top. We also have a few turn of the century posters also.

Mara, artwork is very personal. In many respects, furniture fades into the background. I'm picky about what goes on our walls also. One really has to live with their artwork. But - a tip -While we have stepped up to the plate & bought from big-time print dealers, some of our best purchases have come from consignment shops, antique stores & shows. You don't always have to love the frame. You don't always have to love the print. Sometimes one print looks better in the other frame -so you swap them. Also, we never miss an opportunity to purchase a really nice frame at reasonable prices because we always run into great prints w/ yucky frames.

Hi Mara,

I am new to the Pricescope forum. For the last two days I have been brousing around Pricescope. It's pretty addictive actually. I noticed your entries and I recall hearing your name before around the office (only good things of course) and just wanted to say that your background is interesting. Being so involved in the business, I find it refreshing to get out and meet new people even if it is sitting at my computer (I really should be doing something else right now). This is a great way to get to know your customers. Hope we can chat in the near future.

Keep smiling --- it lights up Pricescope

Hi Debi! Thanks for the note. I have heard of your illustrious name as well..but had not yet had the opportunity to speak with you.
1.gif

I'm sure you have heard Brian grumbling my name a time or two with my harassing requests for pictures of dreamy stones.
2.gif
One day soon I hope to make it out to Texas or to an industry show and meet up with the excellent WhiteFlash team for a few drinks....hopefully you will be there as well!
1.gif

In the meantime, I am excitedly waiting my opportunity to use the WhiteFlash upgrade option on my e-ring stone...we'll see what the new hubby says for my 30th bday later this year.

I think it's excellent that you have surfaced on Pscope to get a feel for your customers and their ideas of great companies. You learn alot hanging out in the coffee room.

Welcome!

Wow -- pricescope is so interactive. Now where do you live --- it's possible when I am in your neck of the woods I can invite you for a drink. No Brian has NOT at all grumbled. How could you think anybody would grumble about you? It seems that you are nothing but helpful on this channel and provide great feedback for our business
1.gif
From the pictures you have posted, you look like a pretty optimistic person. Sounds like you have juggled a lot of challenges in your life and managed through them with a smile on your face.

We will be in touch. I am going to N.Y. to visit one of our very important business partners, Vatche. So I look forward to staying in touch with you on Pricescope. Oh and yes, you are so right about the information on this chat channel. Not only is this a funny hang out, but there are some great ideas on how to buy the right diamond and how the vendors need to treat their customers.

Talk to you soon

Had some time on my hands this AM, so figured I'd update this thread on myself with our long-overdue wedding pictures from Hawaii and Honeymoon in Tahiti....in May of 2004. They are scattered on Pscope probably in the wedding planning section but here's the consolidation!
1.gif
We love Hawaii and Tahiti and think about going back DAILY. The amazing pictures were taken by Andy at Orange Photography...we love Andy and his work was superb. He is based in SF but came to Hawaii to do our wedding!

These two first ones are appropriate for PS because a) I am showing off my ring in the first one and b) The photographer took this amazing shot of us holding hands which I adore because it's abstract AND it shows off my rings...hehee. I love the shot of me and my maids except my sister is making a fist behind my back...thanks sis! The water looks so blue. Then there is Greg playing his sax which he did at the end of the evening/reception and then we all scattered for our respective cottages/houses!

wedding collage 2.JPG

and here are some images of us in Hawaii...one before the wedding (look at the stress on Greg''s face before!!), the next one is after the wedding (ahh relaxed at the pool), and then the last one is right before we leave for Tahiti...for more relaxation!

us in hawaii 04 copy.JPG

and then we have ourselves in Tahiti, on the island of Moorea, for a full 7 days...soooo amazing and beautiful. More beautiful than Kauai though it seems sacrilege to say it.

First image is our hotel from the top of the hill, second is our own ocean front hut!, third is this amazing church we found along the way... next is this side inlet along one of our drives as the sun was going down and lastly is a sunrise one of the mornings about 7am...a friend commented that Greg looks like he is peeing in the sand but really he is just looking down! Haha.

tahiti collage 1 copy.JPG

and last set from Tahiti...we've got greg snorkeling in the water off our beach, us out one evening at a French restaurant, an underwater view while snorkeling...love the blues!, and an evening sunset shot of the huts over the water (love the colors in this picture!).

Nice Update Mara..I would like to be in Tahiti right now

Maybe take a picture of Greg after 5 years of marriage so we can all see the evidence of relaxation still painted on his face

Tahiti...

The relaxation of the trips wore off very fast after return to real life here...bills...work...property taxes!!

We''re already hoping to make a trip again to Kauai later this year...we''ll see how it pans out!

I am trying to find out from my cakemaker in Kauai if it''s possible for her to make a small sample cake of our wedding cake and ship it overnight to us for our anniversary...we opted to not save the top layer since I have heard it tastes icky after a year in the freezer...so hopefully this fresh route is doable without spending TOO much $$.

Ah, it''s raining and dreary here in Seattle
7.gif
Tahiti looks so warm and inviting! Thanks for sharing.

Mara,
Thanks for the additional pics. of your wedding and vacation. I''ve been here at PS for a while and I remember following all your planning for your wedding. It''s so great for us who are at the beginning or in the middle of planning our weddings to see it all come together so beautifully in the end like yours.

Mara,

Your wedding was gorgeous. Congratulations. Hawaii and Tahiti are stunning. You look so happy together and may youalways be blessed with such happiness

Thanks guys....the wedding turned out really beautiful and it is actually amazing to be planning it for so long, have it happen, and then have the treasured memories for later....when it''s all happening it doesn''t seem as real as it does later when it''s all done. Especially now that some time has passed, it''s fun to have some of the pictures up around the house (I have a collage hallway upstairs) and remember the time.

Mara:

Such a dream wedding with a dream location. Your photos are beautiful! Let me know how the cake turns out.

Gorgeous. Everything. Gorgeous couple. Gorgeous flowers. Gorgeous location.

I agree with what everyone has been saying. The pictures are beautiful! You had a beautiful wedding!! Thanks for sharing Mara!

Mara,
I agree that the pic of you and your hubby holding hands (and of course showing your rings) is really special. I love unplanned photos like that. Your entire wedding looks fantastic.

Also I have to tell you how much I adore your veil. It is soooo beautiful and flows so nicely.......

Thanks guys! Our photographer did an excellent job...we brought him with us from SF through somewhat of a fluke. We had found him here in SF when we were considering a local wedding and really liked him...and then when we were thinking of Hawaii, I asked him if he would consider coming. He said YES (he had never been before and it also gave a great portfolio opportunity)...he split the costs with us and gave us an amazing price on a package!! He and his girlfriend totally fit in with our crowd so it was alot of fun to have them there and multiple people raved about how great they were, both just as people...and as photographers (his GF is in training!). I still keep in touch with him and told him when it comes time to propose to his GF to come to me for help with the diamond of course!
9.gif

Rita, that veil was something like $30 on eBay!! The gal custom makes them...I wanted a cathedral that was very simple and didn''t want to pay the typical $200 or whatever it is at the bridal store. It worked out GREAT and she sent it within 2 weeks after ordering!

Figured I would update my old thread with info on our first anniversary, which was on May 12!

We went to La Fondue for dinner which I adore...and while we were gone, my Mom came over and setup Greg''s surprise, I had a small replica of our cake flown in from HAWAII! Our cakemaker had made a small 6" cake and put orchids on top like our real cake last year...it came in a bit mangled but my Mom touched it up and in the dim light it''s hard to see.
2.gif
The cakemaker couldn''t guarantee anything, which I understood, but I was willing to take the chance and try it! I''m so glad it worked out.

When we got home, this is what our kitchen looked like! Oh and these were the amazing flowers that Greg had sent to my work, the bouquet was massive! He done good.
2.gif

kitchen setup anni.JPG

and here is a closeup of the cake itself, the candles were playing tricks on my camera and putting these odd horizontal blue lines through the picture...so those were NOT on the real cake.
2.gif
The cake was triple chocolate with sour cream sweet frosting just like our original...the real original also had a layer of lilikoi which is the Hawaii specialty but Suzi hadn''t felt it would travel as well as the choco would.

Greg was very surprised, ESP since we had just polished off a huge fondue dinner AND a big bowl of choco fondue...we just managed to eat a small sliver of the cake but it was the thought, and we had leftover cake for a week.
9.gif

the next day after our real anniversary, we left for a small mini trip to the Brewery Gulch Inn, which was a B&B place that our photographer had recommended to us, in Mendocino. The place was awesome, very friendly, the food was all organic which was fun, and the whole trip was excellent...this was our view outside of our room.

and on the way back on Highway 1...here are a few shots I snapped! I''m such a scenery person.
