Low-profile claw setting for gents gypsy ring.

I saw a nice low-profile claw setting for a gents gypsy ring but I cannot find images on the Internet.

The claws were so stubby it made the ring look more like an old star setting.

I am basically looking at a basic design that departs slightly from the rub-over look, however I don't want to go with a gents claw setting because they tend to be heavy, tall and blingy.

If anyone knows what I am referring to and has a snap they could share with me it would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

I'm also curious about this and want to explore what you are describing.

Does the metal contact the diamond in four points or two, or is the girdle completely surrounded by metal?
Is the girdle flush (so the table is above the ring) or is the girdle below the level of the ring with the table flush with the ring.
Was it a round diamond?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I thought gypsy set means the diamond is fully set into the metal with the metal completely surrounding the girdle.
Like this . . .

Are you thinking more of a half bezel?
This is a woman's ring but just look at how the diamond is set:

In my expericence the term "Gypsy" refers to a domed type of setting.
The stone can be either bezel set- such as the stone in the band Kenny posted, or set with prongs

Probably six points.

The girdle would be marginally above the ring.

Gypsy is a broad term covering a number of different styles from clawed to rub-over.

That's quite close actually, but imagine it without the separate claws but the inner points of the star being the claws.

Is the setting something like this - (from Jewels by erica grace)?

Imagine that setting flattened down with tiny prongs and you're there.
I'm not the one looking for a ring, you are! :wink2: I love a nice traditional setting - good luck with your search!

BTW I believe this style is also called a "belcher" setting.

I think what you are looking for is a Belcher setting. Search Belcher ring images on Google. It is one of my favorite styles and was very popular mid-century and earlier.
