Some of you may know that around New Years (and a PS GTG no less!) I lost a stone from the melee in my micro pave halo ering. That time, it fell out while I was cleaning it, in the jar of solution. This time, it happened randomly while I was at work. I have no idea where the stone is or where it happened. It was there one moment and gone the next.

I''m so annoyed. I know this is a risk with pave, but I''m very careful with it. I don''t sleep with it on and I don''t wear it when I do things with my hands (like clean, etc). I even take it off to wash my hands. Oh and the kicker is that I think it''s the same stone as the one that fell out before.

I have a 1 year warranty on the ring for problems with the setting or lost melee stones, but what happens if the stones keep falling out after the 1 year mark? I don''t know if I want to deal with taking my ring in to be fixed every 5 weeks. And I refuse to NOT wear it.

Can any of you weigh in on what I can expect for options from my jeweler? Is there any possibilty of trading the setting in for another one when stuff like this happens?

Thanks in advance.

HH

HH, darn that stinks.

I don''t know what to tell you about what to do with this setting. Just do me a favor; okay? Picture walking into the jewelry store and handing them back your halo and saying good-bye and walking away from it forever. Now, tell me your first gut level response to that picture. That may help you make your decision.

I just can''t picture giving mine up.

Wow I am heart broken and angry for you! I say reset that baby in something with less maintenance! It could get costly if it happens that often!

Wow, you must be absolutely sick about this!

I trust that Shay is 100% correct on this issue. Could you give up your setting? While it might eventually come down to that in end if nothing else works...but I wouldn''t make a snap decision about that right now.

I would promptly speak with your jeweler...perhaps he has a creative idea that will save your setting and allow you wear your ring stress free!

That really sucks! I personally don''t know what you can expect from your jeweller, but I do think it''s reasonable to ask for a trade for another setting if this one keeps having trouble. It never hurts to ask if that''s the route you decide to take.

I''m so sorry Hudson!

Can you possibly ask your jeweler to extend the warranty past 1 year?

Best of luck..

Giving up my ring is the #1 LAST resort and I''d only consider it after expending money out of my own pocket.

HH I am so sorry to hear about you loosing another melee.

I completely understand where you are coming from about forever replacing the melee for the next 2,3,5,10,15 years. I would take it to the jewelers and talk with them about it. They may say since it has happened a few times now that they will extend their coverage for the lost melee for another year or even more. But the big question is if they don''t want to cover it and you trade it in for something different, will you love another setting as much as you love this one? Hopefully they will work with you as I''m sure they don''t want to turn you away to the dark side of Internet buying! You have to think of what you really want to do before you go in there so you have a plan in mind.

Let me know if you want moral support when you go. I''d be happy to tag along and help you.

I had a shared prong band that lost 2 stones. It had a similar replacement policy, and when I asked them about what happens if it falls out again but it is after the original first year, they said they would take care of it.

Granted, whatever they say, I''d get it in writing!!

At the end of it, my jeweller said that if it happened one more time, they''d send it back to the original manufacturer because clearly something was faulty with it.

I''d go back, get it fixed, and get a ''new'' warranty date. If it keeps happening, I''d consider getting it remade (at their cost of course).

Good luck!

Wow that really sucks. I know people say this can be a problem, but does it really happen this frequently? Makes me not want to get the ring I planned on, but I really really want it!!! GRR.

HH!! Between the venue, the Pats losing and now more missing melee, you have had a very bad weekend. I''m so sorry!

DH once bought me an emerald and diamond stacking ring from Bailey Banks and Biddle and one of the diamonds kept falling out. We had a 2-year warranty, but I had the same concerns you do: What happens when the warranty runs out?

After it happened the second time they told me that the only reason a stone would keep falling out is because of the setting, so they made it for me from scratch and I had it for another 5 years without any problems at all (until I lost it).

Can he remake the halo setting for you? It sounds like there is a defect in the setting itself which is causing the stone to keep falling out.

Yea, I''m thinking it''s a problem with the setting itself. They prongs are super tiny and even though they supposedly "checked" them all, it''s not hard to see how it happened. There are a few things I''d like to change about the setting (like the stones under the head) to prep it for a band to sit next to it, so if the option to remake the ring came up I''d probably look into it. Even though it has a warranty, it takes at least a few days for them to fix it, and I can''t always easily find the time to go.

Okay, time to suck it up and move on.

How annoying! Pave is so beautiful but it is fragile.

oh NO Hudson!! That''s just terrible! I check my ring for lost stones every day - knock on wood - but I would be horrified too, if I kept losing stones. Is there any way you can take preventative steps to keep this from happening in the future? tightening things, fixing/changing bead prongs, anything like that? Maybe see an independent jeweler and ask their opinion on it. Because I would hate to see you have to change that gorgeous setting! I know they say that pave has that risk, but I''ve known people to wear pave for years and years and never lose a single stone.

How frustrating!!!

Honestly, I would go into your jeweler and have a conversation with them. I would remain friendly and patient at all times, but simply explain to them the situation. Tell them that a pave setting shouldn''t loose stones that frequently and that there may be a problem with the setting. Ask them if it is possible to have the ring re-made. You love the ring, but you definitely don''t feel you should have to take the ring to get repaired so frequently even if the jeweler is willing to pay for the repairs.

See what they say...you never know, they may make you a new ring!

I agree, I would have a talk with the jeweler...this sounds like it could be a lifelong problem with your ring, and who wants to deal with that? I am sorry that this has happened again

Oh HH I am so sorry that you are having troubles with the pave on your ring. I have worn my upgrade ring with three sided micro pave on the shank for nearly three years now with no problems, but I know some others on here have had issues. I agree with everyone that you need to sit down with your jeweler and have a serious chat about solutions. Please keep us posted on what he suggests.
