Hi all,

Newbie looking to not get screwed on an expensive diamond purchase! I picked out a loose stone and setting at a local jewelry store, but the loose stone quote seems out of line based on what I have seen on james allen, etc. I personally saw and inspected the stone and am happy with it.

What would you expect to pay for this stone? Does this sound like a good stone? Platinum setting.

GIA Certification:

Round Brilliant
Measurements: 6.75-6.79-4.22
Carat Weight: 1.20
Color Grade: I
Clarity Grade: VS2
Cut Grade: Excellent
Finish Polish: Excellent
Finish Symmetry: Excellent
Fluorescence: None

The top of the stone is 56%, with the next angle listed as 55%. Medium, slightly thick (faceted)

Thanks so much!

I wouldn't pay anymore more for the stone than I could purchase a comparable one online for. Now that I've purchased a few stones online I've come to value the additional information available and prefer to purchase this way over local BM stores that offer little information and knowledge about the stones performance. Of course shopping in person allows you to personally evaluate the stone however I find it difficult to do so constructively in the lighting environment available in most stores. Most shoppers are unaware of how to critically evaluate a stones performance anyway so the light performance testing done by online vendors provides me with additional assurances that I am indeed purchasing a well performing stone. Ive also found that most online vendors offer better return, upgrade, trade in, and buy back policy's than most BM retailers do and this adds value for me.
