So I previously posted about a couple diamonds that were being sold in settings, and I got some great advice, but some advice was targeted at the setting. I’m just tying to focus my search solely to loose diamonds and then I’ll have someone like SK or VC (I know VC sometimes won’t set diamonds he doesn’t source himself) do the setting. Some options I’m considering are:
Option 1:
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/4.01-carat-d-color-vs2-clarity-sku-5458647 - 12.4x8.94 (1.39 LW ratio, 4.01ct, D color, VS2)
Option 2: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/3.73-carat-h-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-6602930 - 12.8x8.43 (1.52 LW ratio, 3.73ct, H color, VVS2)
Option 3: https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/4.03-carat-g-color-vs1-clarity-sku-8241542 - 13.28x8.93 (1.49 LW ratio, 4.03ct, G color, VS1)
I’ve reached out to distinctive gems and he hasn’t got back to me. It’s so hard for me to tell how fiery or brilliant a stone will be from these little 360 videos.
My concerns with each stone are:
- The H color makes me nervous. We are going to set the diamond we choose in a simple thin pave band but I want a chunky eternity wedding band. Also, its LW ratio (1.52) is a hair longer than I hoped for.
- The D has strong fluorescence (which could very well not be an issue, and James Allen has a good return policy) and its LW is a hair shorter than the 1.4-1.5 I was aiming for. Besides that, it’s gorgeous.
- The G has strong fluorescence (same comment above for the D- could be totally fine and 30 day return policy). Its proportions and LW ratio are perfect and very much what I want, however, the color seems MORE colorful than the H above, or am I crazy? I want it to face up white AND not look colorful against a nice thick eternity wedding band. ALSO— depth is 57.3% and I’ve heard that can make the diamond look dead and not return light well.
Any advice would be very much appreciated. Would love opinions on brilliance/fire and addressing my concerns on color. Thanks!
