I am another long time lurker, having discovered this community after my husband gave me a lovely diamond and sapphire ring and I didn't know the proper way to take care of it. I found I could spend hours here not only reading about gem care, but so many other things, from design and where to purchase new and vintage. All with friendly enthusiasm. Today, I'm asking what so many have asked: help with purchasing diamonds for stud earrings. I decided to go with LGD chiefly for the cost, but also because being earrings, I won't feel the same sense of responsibility about wearing them (if that makes sense), should I lose one. Nor will I probably insure them. I've looked all over the recommended vendors, and pretty much settled on James Allen--I like their Platinum Scallop Basket setting (my ears can be finicky), but got confused by the many JA suggested pairs. It seemed as though one of the pair would be fine but the 'match' was problematic. So I've tried looking at loose stones and matching them up myself. Haha! A daunting task or fool's errand, where I am the fool. What I hope to find: 2 tcw, D-E, VS1/VS2. But this is where I am, although one of these is Ideal and one Excellent:

or would this be a match for the first one? But it's SI1 clarity, not VS1--is that too much difference?

Thank you for any guidance.

The last diamond you posted is a much better match for the first, even with the discrepancy between clarity grades. That may be one of the cleaner SI1 diamonds I've ever seen. I don't think you'd be able to notice anything from normal viewing distance in real life, so it could very well be worth a shot.

The reason the second diamond posted is graded "Excellent" is because GIA graded it, and that is their top designation for cut grade. Sadly, that's a very wide range, and many GIA XXX diamonds are in fact, not well performing.

I might pair the SI1 you posted with this one, as the proportions and measurements are a better match.

Or get this pair.

Thank you for that explanation! That's very helpful.

I appreciate the suggestions. I am snowed in today, so it's a good time to study all these options.
