I'm getting ready to pop the question, and I am in the research stage of finding a ring. I know the basic design that she wants, which is a cushion cut, pave ring setting, where there is no border on the ring setting. Other than that, I am trying to go as high as I can on the color and clarity of the diamond. What do you guys think of this setting and diamond that I chose? Is this a good one?

Not a fan of that cushion, lots of leakage under the table. You can't buy a fancy just buying saying: G VS1. Also you don't need Vs1.

And have you asked if that setting can be made for a cushion?

Do you want to work with JA?

I can find you better cushions.

Your budget appears to be around 4k. Is that correct? Do you have any wiggle room?

Yo would HAVE to put the ones you like on hold and ask for an ASET of them. Then once you get them, post them and we'll help you chose.

COMPARE DIMENSIONS NOT CARAT WEIGHT WITH CUSHIONS:

Ok. Well the pickings are slim in the 80 points H Si1 or better and under 3200 range.
This is the only one I found: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/0.82-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-sku-303475

If you have give in your budget, there is these:

Not sure about this one, but it has potential and it affordable: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.01-carat-g-color-vs1-clarity-sku-329816
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.00-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-sku-348862
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.00-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-sku-346132 great spread
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.01-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-sku-346133

Otherwise, we'll have to try a different vendor.

Hi Palelei and welcome!

I agree with Gypsy, I don't think the cushion you chose above is going to be the best choice from looking at it, it doesn't appear to be well cut at all, better to go lower in colour and clarity and get a well cut diamond rather than higher and have a dull, lacklustre stone, which I think this is.

I really like the 2 from B2C Gypsy found, would you be open to those?

Thanks for the replys. I am open to other sites, I just went with James Allen because they seemed to have to best reveiws from others during my research. The 2 diamonds that I see from B2 are both out of stock. Can you help me understand what I am looking for when looking for a diamond?

Also, based on the suggestions, I only see loose diamonds, any good pave setting suggestions to go with these diamonds?

Also, my budget is about $4,500 for both diamond and setting. Basically, she (as well as me) doesn't know anything about diamonds other than if it looks big. So I am looking for something that appears big, although I understand that may not always be the largest carrot.

You are looking for crisp facets with an optically even pattern, and you are looking for contrast, bright facets and a few dark ones for pattern, only.

You don't need high color and clarity. What you want is a bright and lively stone it's the faceting and light return that you want to maximize.

Also with stones with an ASET posted you want a lot of red, some green and then some blue but for contrast and pattern.

and

Are both lovely.

Also lovely:

The facets should be crisp. Especially under the table. And there should be minimal "mushy" facets.

YOU ONLY GET THERE ASETS PER PURCHASE AT JA. SO PICK YOUR TOP THREE STONES AND PUT THEM ON HOLD AND ASK FOR AN ASET (no cost, no obligation).

Here are my top picks at JA:

Under a carat:
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/0.90-carat-h-color-vs1-clarity-sku-319977
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/0.91-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-sku-297898 if eyelcean
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/0.90-carat-i-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-352891
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/0.92-carat-e-color-vs2-clarity-sku-305297
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/0.90-carat-i-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-352891

But you have the budget for over a carat and a larger stone which is what I'd pick.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.01-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-sku-346133 Top pick.
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.01-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-sku-313245
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.00-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-sku-304717
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.00-carat-h-color-vs2-clarity-sku-348862

You are lucky there is a LOT of selection in your price range right now. You are going to get a gorgeous stone.

Pick the 3 you like the best. Make sure you pay attention to the dimensions, and ask for an ASET.

@Gypsy Thank you, your knowledge is wonderful!

I have some research to do as I am not completely sure what the facet even is. What is your opinion on B2C Jewels?

What do you think of this diamond?

And this setting?

Thanks,

Setting link isn't working for me. But the diamond is lovely. I have not seen settings from B2C so I can't endorse their settings. But the diamond is lovely.

My diamond and setting from B2C will be here tomorrow so I'll let you know how the setting is.

The diamond you linked to looks nice as well, I had a diamond that was on hold for me a couple wks ago that would've been well in your price range and was very nice but I just went back and checked and unfortunately it's gone =/
